New Delhi (NV): The Maharashtra government has imposed a weeklong lockdown in Nagpur from March 15 to 21 due to a sudden rise in coronavirus cases in the city.
The district Guardian Minister Nitin Raut made the announcement and said, “Complete lockdown to remain imposed in Nagpur City Police Commissionerate area from March 15 to March 21. Essential services will continue”
According to the order issued by the Nagpur administration, only essential services such as vegetable and fruit shops and milk booths will be allowed to open during the lockdown. “Medical stores and other emergency services will continue to be exempted from the restrictions, “it added.
During the lockdown, private offices will remain closed, while government offices will work at 25 per cent capacity, the order said.
Apart from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation area, lockdown will also be imposed in adjoining towns like Kamptee, Koradi and Hingna to curb the spread of the infection.
This development comes as Nagpur has been witnessing steady rise in daily count of coronavirus cases. On Wednesday, the city recorded 1,710 new cases.
Meanwhile, the worst-affected Maharashtra has registered 22,52,057 COVID-19 cases with 13,659 cases reported in last 24 hours, which is almost 60 per cent of the daily new cases reported in India, the Health Ministry data shows.
