Modi congratulates Nepal’s new PM

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called up Sher Bahadur Deuba to congratulate him on assumption of office as Nepal’s Prime Minister and the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties which had got adversely affected during the tenure of K P Sharma Oli.

PM Modi conveyed his best wishes to Deuba for his appointment as Prime Minister of Nepal and for winning the confidence vote in Parliament, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

During a telephonic conversation, both sides have discussed the ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the context of the ongoing efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recalling the unique and millenia-old people-to-people linkages that underpin the special friendship between India and Nepal, the leaders agreed to work together to enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas, the statement read.

Taking to twitter, Deuba thanked PM Modi for his congratulatory message and said both sides discussed for strengthening the bilateral ties.

He tweeted, “I had cordial telephone conversation with Prime Minister @narendramodi this afternoon. We shared views on further strengthening bilateral ties. PM Modi assured early supply of Covid Vaccines to Nepal. I thanked him for his warm words of congratulations.”
