Police, Security Forces conduct joint Mock Drill at Amargarh Railway Station, Sopore

Srinagar, Jan 02 (NVI): In a concerted effort to enhance emergency preparedness and public safety, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with the Indian Army, CAPF, RPF, and Fire & Emergency Services, conducted a comprehensive mock drill at Railway Station Amargarh, Sopore.

The exercise aimed to train personnel for swift and coordinated responses to potential emergencies, particularly those of a terrorist nature. It also assessed the effectiveness of existing security measures, response times, and identified areas requiring improvement.

Superintendent of Police Sopore,Divya D supervised the drill and lauded the joint efforts of the security forces in boosting their emergency response capabilities. Fight must be for Article 370, not just Statehood: NC MP Ruhullah

Srinagar, Jan 02 (NVI): National Conference (NC) leader and Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi today said that the core struggle for Jammu and Kashmir should center around the restoration of Article 370, rejecting statehood as an insufficient remedy.

Taking to social media platform X, Ruhullah reiterated his position, stating, “Since 2019, my stance has been clear. Our fight must be for the restoration of Article 370, which symbolizes the dignity and autonomy of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

He also expressed his willingness to lead a protest in Delhi to draw attention to the issue. “I am ready to participate in such a protest and will work to secure the support of over 100 MPs. January, the month marking the adoption of India’s Constitution, would be an ideal time for this demonstration,” Ruhullah said.

The NC leader criticized the abrogation of Article 370, calling it a deliberate act of humiliation designed to erode the identity and autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir. “The abrogation was a political statement aimed at undermining our sacrifices and dictating our future. Settling for statehood alone would mean compromising our rightful status,” he added.

Srinagar Police attach property of notorious Drug Peddler in major crackdown under NDPS Act

Srinagar, Jan 02(NVI): In a significant move to combat the growing drug menace in Srinagar, police have attached the property of a notorious drug peddler, worth lakhs of rupees, under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The action, carried out in the Noorbagh area, targets the assets acquired through the proceeds of illegal narcotics trade.

The peddler, identified as Mohd Irfan Sheikh, a resident of Pamposh Colony Palpora, was arrested under case FIR No. 134/2024. Following the investigation, police uncovered that a large quantity of narcotic drugs had been seized, and Sheikh had amassed substantial property, including a house and land, from his illegal activities. In accordance with legal procedures, these assets were attached by the authorities.

The Srinagar Police have made it clear that their crackdown on drug-related offenses will not only focus on apprehending offenders but also on confiscating their unlawfully acquired wealth. This serves as a stern warning to others involved in the drug trade that the law will eventually catch up with them, regardless of their position or resources.

Sajad Lone challenges “misuse” of Police verifications in J&K High Court

Srinagar, Jan 02 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone, has approached the Jammu & Kashmir High Court with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), challenging the misuse of police verification processes.

Filed through Advocate Syed Sajad Geelani, the PIL aims to address concerns over unfair practices and seek justice for affected citizens.

The petition highlights the growing concern of using police verifications as a form of collective punishment, where individuals are targeted due to the actions or affiliations of their family members. Lone argues that the verification process should focus solely on an individual’s conduct and not penalize them for factors beyond their control.

Lone’s petition underscores that the misuse of police verifications has resulted in the denial of basic rights, including employment, access to passports, and other essential opportunities. He advocates for a fair, transparent, and law-abiding verification process that does not infringe on citizens’ rights.

The PIL calls for the strict enforcement of existing guidelines, including the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Services (Validation of Character and Antecedents) Instructions, 1997, as well as the amendments introduced through Government Orders No. 528-JK(GAD) of 2021 and Circular No. 05-JK(GAD) of 2024. These guidelines mandate a focus on an individual’s criminal record and call for clear timelines in the verification process.

Lone expressed concern over the consistent disregard for these guidelines, which he believes causes unnecessary hardship for citizens. He stressed the need for proper implementation to prevent unjust punishment based on irrelevant factors.

The petition also raises constitutional concerns, claiming violations of Articles 14, 19(1)(g), and 21 of the Constitution, which guarantee equality, freedom of profession, and the right to live with dignity. Lone argues that the practice of basing police verifications on the actions of family members is not only a violation of fundamental rights but also leads to severe social, economic, and emotional consequences for individuals.

Lone referenced the Supreme Court’s “Bulldozer Judgment”, which strongly opposed the principle of collective punishment, emphasizing that police verifications should be solely based on the individual’s actions and not on those of their relatives.

“This petition is not politically motivated; it is about securing justice, ensuring equality, and protecting constitutional rights for all citizens,” Lone affirmed. “We aim to address the real-life hardships caused by arbitrary verification practices that violate the dignity and rights of individuals.”

The PIL has been submitted to the court registry and is currently under procedural review. It will be listed for hearing once cleared by the registry. (News Vibes of India)

Kashmir an inseparable part of India’s soul : Amit Shah at book launch in Delhi

Srinagar, Jan 02(NVI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reaffirmed the historical and cultural integration of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh with India, citing 8,000-year-old ancient texts as evidence.

Speaking at the launch of the book “Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh: Through the Ages,” published by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) in New Delhi, Shah emphasized that Kashmir is not just a part of India but an integral part of its civilizational heritage.

Shah referenced ancient granths (scriptures) that validate Kashmir’s connection to India across millennia, asserting that the region is inseparable from the nation’s cultural identity.

He reiterated that Article 370 was a temporary provision and its abrogation in 2019 was a historic necessity. Shah said the move has led to a significant decline in separatism and terrorism, with their supporting ecosystem dismantled.

The Home Minister also highlighted the region’s remarkable progress post-abrogation, including expanded rail connectivity and the construction of India’s longest tunnel, which he hailed as milestones of a new and prosperous Kashmir.

Praising the ICHR, Shah commended its research for countering separatist narratives and reaffirming Jammu and Kashmir’s place in India’s historical and spiritual framework.

“The abrogation of Article 370 has not only ensured peace and development but has also reasserted a historical truth—Kashmir is an inseparable part of India’s soul,” Shah concluded. (News Vibes of India)

Srinagar, Jan 2(NVI): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today voiced strong criticism of the dual power structure in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it ineffective and unnecessary.

Speaking during an interaction with the media at SKICC, he also addressed issues ranging from statehood restoration delays and holiday controversies to the region’s power supply and development projects.

Dual Power Structure: “Not in Anyone’s Favour”

Omar Abdullah argued that the dual power system, dividing authority between the elected government and the Raj Bhawan, is not conducive to efficient governance. “If this system was effective, it would have been implemented everywhere in the country,” he said.
He added that the government is working on finalizing business rules to streamline governance. “We are trying to clearly define where the powers of the elected government begin and end, and where the powers of the Raj Bhawan start,” Omar explained.

Statehood Restoration: A Year of Waiting

The Chief Minister expressed frustration with the central government’s delay in restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. “It has been one year since the Centre promised statehood restoration. One year is enough for delivering on a promise made as ‘soon as possible,’” he said, emphasizing the urgency of fulfilling this commitment.

Holiday Calendar Controversy: Legacy Lives On

Omar responded to questions about the exclusion of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and Martyrs’ Day from the 2025 holiday calendar. “This indeed became a big issue,” he acknowledged, but added, “Sheikh Abdullah and the martyrs will continue to live on every day through their legacy.”

Power Supply Improvements

Discussing the region’s power situation, Omar noted that supply has improved significantly, now ranging between 1,700 and 1,800 MWs. He assured further progress as state-run power projects become fully operational. “The power supply is better than in many past years,” he said confidently.

Development Concerns: Railway Line and NIT Pulwama

The Chief Minister also addressed concerns about upcoming development projects. Regarding the proposed railway line in South Kashmir that could affect agricultural land, Omar said, “The concerns expressed by the people will be taken care of.”
On the establishment of an NIT in Pulwama, he stated, “If the people of the district oppose it, the government will shift the project to another location.”

Commitment to Election Promises

Heavy Snowfall expected in North Kashmir, Says Independent weather forecaster

Srinagar, Jan 02(NVI): A Western Disturbance currently active over Jammu and Kashmir is likely to bring heavy snowfall to the Valley particularly in the higher reaches of North Kashmir, Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district and the Sonamarg-Pahalgam and Zojila-Drass axis.

Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif stated, “The ongoing Western Disturbance is expected to peak this afternoon, bringing heavy snowfall to higher altitudes, with some areas likely receiving over 12 inches of snow. Plains of North Kashmir also have a 60% chance of witnessing significant snowfall accumulation.”

He further noted that central Kashmir, especially Ganderbal district, has a 45–50% chance of snowfall, while parts of South Kashmir may see lighter snow with a 25% probability.

The disturbance is expected to withdraw late tonight, with mostly dry weather likely on January 3 and 4, though isolated precipitation in higher-altitude areas cannot be ruled out.

Residents are advised to remain cautious, especially in high-impact areas, as snowfall may lead to disruptions in travel and essential services.(News Vibes of India)

3 youth found dead in Bhaderwah Hotel room, Police says possibility of Asphyxiation

Jammu, Jan 2 (NVI): Three young men were found dead inside a hotel room in Bhaderwah area of Doda district of Jammu today with preliminary investigations pointing to asphyxiation due to a charcoal heater, officials said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sandeep Mehta, stated that police were alerted after the brother of one of the deceased reported no response to repeated phone calls.

The location of the phone was traced, and police teams tracked down the vehicle the deceased had traveled in. Investigations revealed that the three had booked a room at the Royal Inn Guest House.

With no response to repeated knocks on the door, police broke in to find two of the men unconscious on the bed and the third in the washroom. Doctors and forensic teams were called in, but all three were declared dead at the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Singh of Domana, Jammu; Ashutosh Singh Rana of Bhela, Doda; and Sunny Choudhary of Purkhoo, Jammu.

The SSP noted that a charcoal heater found in the room likely caused the asphyxiation. A forensic report is awaited, and further investigations are underway (News Vibes of India)

J&K ACB goes digital: Electronic challan system launched for transparent Anti-Corruption drive

Srinagar, Jan 01(NVI): In a significant move towards digital governance and transparency, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has officially transitioned to a fully electronic challan system.

Effective today, all ACB branches will submit case challans exclusively through the Crime & Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS), marking the end of manual FIR registrations and paper-based submissions.

The initiative aims to streamline the challan filing process, enhance record-keeping, and expedite case management. To facilitate the shift, CCTNS labs have been established in all eight ACB police stations, and 18 officials have undergone specialized training to operate the system. Investigating Officers (IOs) are now required to input detailed case information into CCTNS, with supervisory officers withholding approval of challans until all required data is recorded.

“This transition marks a milestone in our fight against corruption,” said a senior ACB official. “The adoption of technology will ensure efficiency, transparency, and accountability in our operations.”

The ACB’s digital leap reflects its commitment to modernizing processes and strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms across Jammu and Kashmir. (News Vibes of India)

Four Terrorist Associates of Jaish-e-Mohammad Arrested in Tral : Police

Srinagar, Jan 01 ( NVI:)Security forces have arrested four terrorist associates linked to the proscribed militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Tral, South Kashmir.

In a statement issued by the police, the arrested individuals have been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Naik, Umar Nazir Sheikh, Inayat Firdous Rather, and Salman Nazir Lone, all residents of Tral.

The police said incriminating materials were seized from their possession, and the individuals were involved in providing logistical support and facilitating the transportation of arms and ammunition to active JeM terrorists in the Tral and Awantipora areas.

A case has been registered at Police Station Tral under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are ongoing. The arrests come as part of continued efforts by security forces to curb terrorism and maintain peace in the Pulwama district.  (News Vibes of India)
