Suspicious Explosive Material Recovered During Search Operation in Samba

Jammu, May 26 (NVI): Security forces on Tuesday recovered suspicious explosive material, including a misfired grenade and mortar components, during a search operation in the Devika Nalla area of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Official sources that the recovery was made around this morning after Territorial Army personnel noticed suspicious items lying in the area and alerted the police.

The recovered material included a misfired 40 mm multi-grenade launcher (MGL) grenade, a grenade cap, fins of 51 mm and 81 mm mortars, a firing mechanism of an 81 mm mortar illumination round, and five parachute-like umbrella attachments, officials said.

Soon after receiving the information, a police team from Border Police Post (BPP) Koulpur rushed to the spot. SHO Ramgarh, DySP Operations, Police Control Room (PCR), and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) Samba were informed for necessary action and safe disposal of the explosive material, they added.(NVI)

Gulmarg Gondola Shut for 2 Days After Technical Snag; All Tourists Rescued Safely

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): The Gulmarg Gondola service in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district will remain suspended for two days for technical maintenance after hundreds of tourists were stranded mid-air due to a malfunction, officials said on Monday.

The cable car service will remain closed on May 26 and 27 as a precautionary measure to allow inspection and rectification of the technical issue that disrupted operations earlier in the day, they said.

Officials said all tickets booked for May 25, 26 and 27 would be refunded in full, while expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to tourists.

The disruption occurred around 1:20 pm when a technical fault halted the gondola service, leaving nearly 400 tourists stranded for several hours.

A large-scale rescue operation involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and civil administration was launched, and all stranded passengers were evacuated safely without any injuries, officials said.

Authorities said the service would resume only after completion of all safety checks and technical inspections.

Over 320 Tourists Rescued After Gulmarg Cable Car Snag; Multi-Agency Operation Ends Safely

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): More than 320 tourists stranded in cable cars after a technical snag halted the Gulmarg Gondola service in Kashmir were rescued safely on Monday evening following a massive multi-agency operation, officials said.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 19 Division, Major General Manoj Joshi, said the rescue operation began around 2 pm and continued for nearly six-and-a-half hours amid adverse weather conditions, including hailstorms and heavy rain.

“There were around 65 cable cars trapped from the entire base to Stage One. Everyone participated in the rescue effort, including SDRF, NDRF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, local pony riders, ATV teams, the Indian Army and teams from the High Altitude Warfare School,” Maj Gen Joshi said.

He said rescue teams worked simultaneously on six to seven cable cars, which helped complete the evacuation before nightfall.

“The tourists trapped inside the cable cars needed to be evacuated. Announcements were made through megaphones asking them to remain calm as rescue efforts were underway,” he said.

According to officials, the malfunction occurred between noon and 1 pm, while the rescue operation formally commenced at 2 pm after the information was received by authorities.

Maj Gen Joshi said the last cable car was evacuated around 8 pm and all stranded tourists were brought to safety without any major incident.

Despite challenging weather conditions, all agencies involved in the operation displayed “great enthusiasm” and coordination, he added.(NVI)

Additional Commissioner Kashmir reviews arrangements for arrival of Hujjaj at Srinagar Airport

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): Additional Commissioner Kashmir Akramullah Tak on Monday reviewed arrangements for the arrival of Hujjaj at Srinagar Airport, with the return of pilgrims scheduled to begin from June 2, officials said.

During a meeting, officials discussed arrangements related to the reception of pilgrims, issuance of passes to officers, deployment of manpower for unloading and sorting luggage, smooth movement of pilgrims and attendants, parking facilities and distribution of ZamZam water, they said.

Tak stressed the need for close coordination among all concerned agencies, including Airlines, Airport Authority, CISF, BCAS, Air Force and CRPF, to ensure smooth and hassle-free Hajj arrival operations at the airport.

He directed all departments and agencies to extend full cooperation and provide necessary assistance for the convenience of the returning pilgrims.

The meeting was attended by ADC Srinagar, ADC Budgam and officers from the Airport Authority, Police, Health, R&B department and the Hajj office, officials added.(NVI)

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): More than 200 tourists stranded after a technical snag halted the Gulmarg Gondola service were safely rescued on Monday by joint teams of security and disaster response agencies, officials said.

According to officials, the rescue operation was carried out by personnel of the SDRF, Gulmarg Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), Snow Leopards brigade and the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police, including 14 specialised Mountain Rescue Teams.

Teams from the NDRF and the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) also played a key role in the ongoing rescue efforts.

The operation was launched after hundreds of tourists were left stranded mid-air following a technical fault in the cable car service at the famous ski resort in north Kashmir. Officials said rescue efforts were continuing to evacuate the remaining stranded passengers safely.(NVI)

Encounter enters third day; hideout unearthed in operation Rajouri Area

Jammu, May 25 (NVI): Security forces recovered a food items after busting a hideout at the site of an ongoing encounter in Rajouri Jammu and Kashmir, Sources said on Monday.

Sources said the operation, which entered its third consecutive day, was continuing in the area amid intensified searches by the forces.

The recovered material is believed to have been used by the Terrioists operating in the region, officials said, adding that security personnel are maintaining a tight cordon as the operation progresses.

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Inspector General of Police Kashmir V K Birdi and other senior officials on Monday reached Gulmarg to oversee rescue operations after hundreds of tourists were stranded following a technical snag in the Gulmarg Gondola service, officials said.

Officials said more than 300 tourists were left stranded mid-air after the cable car service developed a technical fault at the famous ski resort in north Kashmir.

Rescue teams comprising police, Army and civil administration officials launched an operation to safely evacuate the stranded tourists, they said.

Senior Army officers, including Maj Gen Punit Doval, GoC 19 Division Maj Gen Manoj Dattatrey Joshi, Brigadier M B Singh and Commanding Officer of 09 Raj Rifles Col S K Yadav, also rushed to Gulmarg to assist and monitor the rescue efforts, officials added.

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said he is personally monitoring the rescue operation launched after a technical snag halted the Gulmarg Gondola service, leaving several tourists stranded in cable car cabins.

According to officials, joint teams of Police, Army and SDRF were pressed into service after the malfunction affected the cable car system at the famous tourist destination of Gulmarg Gondola in north Kashmir.

In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said he had directed Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat to immediately reach the site and oversee the rescue operation.

“Ensuring the safety of every tourist is our top priority,” the LG said, adding that district administration officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police, were coordinating the evacuation efforts on the ground.

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the situation at the Gulmarg Gondola is fully under control after the cable car service was temporarily suspended due to a technical fault.

According to officials, rescue operations are underway to evacuate tourists stranded in the gondola cabins after the service developed a snag earlier in the day.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office said the government was closely monitoring the situation and trained rescue teams had been deployed on the ground.

“All cabins remain intact and rescue operations to safely evacuate stranded tourists are underway with trained teams on the ground,” the post said.

The Chief Minister’s Office also appealed to the public not to panic, asserting that the situation was under control.(NVI)

Srinagar, May 25 (NVI): Approximately 300 tourists were stranded mid-air for some time after the Gulmarg Gondola service in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district developed a technical snag on Monday, officials said.

They said the cable car service came to a halt following a fault, leaving hundreds of tourists trapped inside the gondola cabins.

A rescue operation was immediately launched by teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and civil administration to evacuate the stranded tourists safely, the officials said.

They said personnel of 9 Rashtriya Rifles, along with local authorities, reached the spot and supervised the evacuation process.

According to officials, panic gripped some tourists, including women and children, after the gondola stopped mid-air, but the situation remained under control.
