Winter Vacation for Kashmir Schools : Break starting from 9th & 16th December

Srinagar, Dec 03(NVI): Kashmir schools are set to welcome the winter holidays soon after the completion of the ongoing exams with vacations starting from December 9 for classes 1 to 2 and from December 16 for classes 3 to 9.

The winter vacation schedule, carefully coordinated by the School Education Department, aims to provide students with much-needed rest while minimizing disruption to the academic calendar.

According to sources, the winter break for classes 1 and 2 will begin on December 9, while students in classes 3 to 9 can look forward to their holidays starting December 16.

The winter vacation comes at a crucial time, offering students in both urban and rural areas the chance to prepare for the severe winter conditions, especially in higher-altitude schools, where snowfall and extreme cold often disrupt regular schedules.

Srinagar, Dec 03 (NVI): Security forces today achieved a major success in Kashmir as they killed a top commander of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) who was involved in several terror acts, including the killing of 7 civilians at a tunnel construction site in Gagangir area of Ganderbal district on October 20.

The terrorist, identified as Junaid Ramzan Bhat of Qaimoh village of Kulgam district of South Kashmir, was eliminated in an overnight encounter in the Dachigam forest in Harwan area of Srinagar district, according to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

On October 20, six non-Kashmiri labourers and a local doctor, were killed when terrorists carried out an attack near the site of the tunnel project in Gagangir in Ganderbal district, resulting in a national outrage.

The gunfight in Dachigam, known for a Wildlife Sanctuary, started last evening after security forces launched a search operation on the basis of a specific intelligence input about presence of terrorists there.

This morning, the police announced that one terrorist was killed in the encounter and he was identified as Junaid Ahmed Bhat, a Category A terrorist of LeT.

“#OPDachigam: In the ongoing operation, one #terrorist is killed and has been identified as Junaid Ahmed Bhat ( LeT, Category A). The said terrorist was involved in civilians killing at Gagangir, Ganderbal and several other terror attacks.

“Operation continues in the upper reaches of Dachigam by J&K Police along with Joint Parties of RR and Security Forces. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Police posted on X.

The attack at the construction site in Gagangir had triggered concerns about the safety of the workers engaged in the infrastructure development work there.

After the attack, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had visited the Gagangir construction site and interacted with officers and workers of the Project Implementing Agency and to review the security measures on the project site.

During his visit, the Lt Governor chaired a meeting of Officers of Police, Civil Administration, Project Implementing Agency and other security agencies and directed that the security grid should be further strengthened to ensure zero terror incidents in order to push rapid social and economic development.

In the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor had underlined the need for protecting the vital infrastructure projects across J&K UT and putting in place a multi-pronged and foolproof mechanism for coordination with project implementing agencies to prevent security breaches.

The Lieutenant Governor had emphasised the need for stricter access control and regular patrolling around the project sites. (NVI)

A top police officer told News Vibes of India (NVI) that Junaid, hailing from Qaimoh in Kulgam, was involved in several terror activities, including the Gagangir Sonmarg attack, which tragically claimed seven lives, including a doctor.

Security forces recovered weapons from the site, indicating his links to armed militancy

Udhampur, Dec 3 (NVI): In a major security operation in Udhampur district of Jammu, the police detained two female terror associates under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their involvement in activities that posed a significant threat to the safety and stability of Jammu and Kashmir.

The detained individuals have been identified as Maryama Begum, wife of Mohd. Shafeeq, from Loudhara, Basantgarh, and Arshad Begum wife of Late Jamal Din, from Rai Chak, Basantgarh.

Police sources confirmed that both women had been providing crucial logistical support to terrorist groups and acting as guides and facilitators for terrorist organizations operating in the region. Their ongoing actions were assessed to be a serious risk to public safety, peace and tranquility.

Given the gravity of their involvement in destabilizing activities, the authorities have invoked the Public Safety Act to detain them and prevent any further harm to the security of the state. This proactive measure aims to disrupt terrorist networks and safeguard the safety of the people.

Former VDG found dead under mysterious circumstances in Udhampur

Udhampur, Dec 03(NVI): Ashok Kumar, a former member of the Village Defence Guards (VDG), was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Chapper, Latti area of Udhampur district of Jammu.

Kumar’s body was found far from his residence, with a bullet wound raising questions about the nature of his death.

SSP Udhampur Amod Nagpure confirmed the incident, stating, “Ashok Kumar’s body was found with a bullet injury but it remains unclear whether he shot himself or if someone else was involved. A police team was immediately dispatched to the spot, and the body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.”

The circumstances of the death have prompted a police investigation, with a case registered to determine whether foul play was involved or if the incident was a case of suicide. The police are also exploring possible motives and connections, given Kumar’s previous role as a VDG member, tasked with aiding security forces in maintaining peace in the region.

This incident has left the local community in shock and raised concerns about the safety and security of former VDG members, who have historically been at the frontline of counter-insurgency efforts in the region. Authorities have assured a thorough probe to ascertain the truth behind Kumar’s death.

CRPF Personnel commits Suicide in South Kashmir Shopian

Srinagar, Dec 03(NVI): A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in the Zainapora area of South Kashmir Shopian district on Tuesday.

A Police officer told NVI that that the jawan shot himself dead at the company headquarters horticulture building in Zainapora.

Kishtwar, Dec 03(NVI): A 24-year-old Army soldier died last night following an accidental fire incident in Chatroo area of Kishtwar district.

Official sources told News Vibes of India (NVI) that a 24-year-old Army soldier died last night due to an accidental fire incident

They said the soldier has been identified as Sepoy Satnam Singh, son of Balkar Singh and a resident of Jammu. The incident occurred when a service weapon discharged accidentally, resulting in a fatal gunshot injury.

A top police officer told NVI that one terrioist has been killed by security forces in the upper reaches forest dachigam forest area, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon the forces triggering off a gunfight.

Encounter break out at Harwan forest area in Srinagar

Srinagar, Dec 02(NVI) : An encounter has started between Terrorists and Security forces upper reaches forest area of Central Kashmir Srinagar district on Monday late night.

A top police officer told NVI that terrorists fired upon the search party of Security forces in the upper reaches harwan forest area.

“As the troops inched closer to the suspected spot, they came under heavy fire which was exchanged effectively,” the officer said.

He said two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area.

Additional reinforcements have been called in to ensure terrorists don’t flee. “Cordon layers are being strengthened,” the officer said.
