Army Thwarts Terror Ambush in Jammu, Killed three terrorists

Srinagar, Oct 29(NVI): The army on Tuesday said that three unidentified terrorists were killed during an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The encounter began on Monday morning after security forces chased terrorists who fired upon an Army ambulance, causing no injuries.

During the operation, one terrorist was killed, and two other were killed today while the search operation is going on

The Army in a statement said that after round the clock surveillance through out the night, an intense firefight unfolded today morning resulting in a significant victory for our forces.

“Relentless operations and tactical excellence has led to the elimination of three terrorists,” the army said, adding that the operation also saw the successful recovery of war-like stores, marking a critical step in maintaining security in the region.

Meanwhile, in an another detailed statement, the army said it thwarted a terror ambush in the dense forests of Battal area Jammu, on October 28, 2024, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists. “In the pre-dawn hours, terrorists ambushed an army convoy, prompting a swift and precise response from the troops. There were no casualties among the convoy persons, as troops quickly forced the attackers to retreat,” it said.

“The operation demonstrated synergy with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and the Special Operation Group (SOG), bolstered by local intelligence and community assistance. Troops maintained comprehensive domination of the area, operating under challenging conditions during the night,” army added.

“Special Forces were mobilized promptly to reinforce the cordon around the fleeing militants. Advanced technology, including night surveillance devices, unmanned ground vehicles & surveillance drones ensured real-time tracking and prevented potential escapes,” it said.

“Tragically, an Army Dog, Phantom sustained fatal injuries during the operation, underscoring the risk involved for all pers engaged in counter-terrorist operation. The operation underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to peace and stability in the region, with enhanced security measures and local outreach ensuring continuous stability,” the army added.

“We also want to dispel some rumours going around on Social Media about the use of BMPs in this operation. The hardened vehicles were used to close-in with the trapped terrorists. We want to also emphasize that Indian Army is a professional force and no disrespect to the mortal remains of the slain terrorist has been carried out,” it said.                        (News Vibes of India)

Azadi Leadership Hosts Awareness Session on Newsroom Harassment at GDC Baramulla

Srinagar, Oct 29 (NVI): The Azadi Leadership Program, in collaboration with the Media department GDC Baramulla on Tuesday organized an awareness session on sexual harassment in newsrooms.

The session aimed to educate students on the challenges faced in newsroom environments and the legal mechanisms available for addressing harassment.

Students from the first, third and 5th semesters, from the department, actively participated in the session.

They were given practical insights into newsroom dynamics, empowering them with the knowledge to raise concerns about workplace misconduct.

The session was organized by Azadi leaders Ilhak Ahmad Tantray and Iqra Qayoom Khan, who invited media and legal experts to share their professional experiences and discuss the legal framework around sexual harassment.

Research scholar and journalist Farzana Nisar interacted with students, providing insights into sexual abuse in newsrooms, discussing how it occurs and ways to prevent it.

She also discussed strategies to fight and eradicate these incidents in newsrooms. She urged students to report such incidents to the authorities within their media firms. If no action is taken, she encouraged them to consider pursuing legal action.

She also urged students to be vigilant in such cases and to actively fight against them instead of remaining quiet and numb.
Meanwhile, Advocate Ishrat Manzoor, a legal expert, discussed the POSH Act and briefed the students on sexual abuse, sexual assault, and related incidents.

She provided insights on how students can take legal action against such issues and encouraged them to address these incidents legally rather than remaining silent.

Furthermore, journalist Sajid Raina shared his experiences of newsroom culture with the students, emphasizing that both men and women can contribute to a balanced and harmonious work environment. He highlighted the importance of open communication and mutual respect in fostering a safe space for all.

Raina also offered practical insights on how to address incidents of sexual abuse and assault in newsrooms, discussing the importance of bystander intervention, reporting mechanisms, and supporting one another in challenging situations.

He encouraged students to cultivate a culture of accountability and solidarity to effectively combat these issues.

A question-and-answer session was held afterward, during which students asked various questions to the experts and received valuable feedback.  (News Vibes of India)

 

J&K Election Commission Announces Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision Schedule

Jammu, Oct 29(NVI): The State Election Commission, J&K, today issued the Revised Revision Schedule regarding updation of Panchayat Electoral Roll-2025.

According to a document issued by State Election Commissioner B.R. Sharma, the publication of the Draft Panchayat Electoral Roll in Form PER-1 will occur on November 11, 2024 (Monday).

The filing of claims and objections for additions, deletions, corrections, and transpositions will be open from November 11 to December 9, 2024 (Monday).

Special camps will be held at Polling Booth Locations on the following dates: November 16 (Saturday), November 17 (Sunday), November 23 (Saturday), November 24 (Sunday), November 30 (Saturday), and December 1 (Sunday).

Panchayat Election Booth Officials (PEBO, i.e., VLW/MPWIGRS), along with Assembly BLOs, will be available at these locations with the necessary forms and the panchayat roll to assist electors.

The disposal of claims and objections will take place on December 23, 2024 (Monday), and the final Panchayat Electoral Roll for 2024 will be published on January 6, 2025 (Monday). (News Vibes of India)

Srinagar, Oct 29 (NVI) : Jammu and Kashmir Police observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, also known as National Unity Day, across the Union Territory of J&K to commemorate the significant contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The main event was held at Armed Police Complex (APC) in Zewan, where the Director General of Police, J&K, Shri Nalin Prabhat administered the unity oath to officers and jawans.

The day was also observed in all district, unit, and wing headquarters of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, where concerned police heads administered a unity oath to jawans and officers at colorful functions.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, is an annual observance to honor the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a key leader renowned for his efforts in unifying the country. The day is dedicated to promoting national integration and unity.—(News Vibes of India)

Tenders worth ₹50.15 Cr floated for providing permanent Grid connectivity : KPDCL

Srinagar, Oct 29 (NVI) : As part of winter preparedness, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), has dumped additional 472 KL of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) to run 25 DGs of various capacities to ensure power supply in harsh winter months to unelectrified households in 22 villages of remote Gurez area of Bandipora District.

Meanwhile, KPDCL has already floated tenders for providing Grid connectivity to the unelectrified HHs of Gurez region for which the Ministry of Power, GoI, has already sanctioned ₹50. 15 Crore.

In a statement issued here today, a KPDCL spokesperson stated that to provide power supply on DG sets in Gurez, a requirement of 945.9 KL of HSD was projected to the Administrative Department. “Apart from 262.4 KL of HSD available, additional 472 KL HSD has been stocked by KPDCL at various locations in Gurez ahead of the peak winter to provide power supply to consumers in 22 villages,” he added.

These villages fall in Tulail and Kanzwalwan sections of Gurez region in Bandipora district.

The spokesman stated that KPDCL shall replenish more HSD supply and other allied material, if need be, to ensure power supply in these Gurez villages during the upcoming winter, as per past practice.

In order to provide permanent Grid connectivity to Gurez and do away with DG set supply, KPDCL has floated 02 tenders for construction of 6.3 MVA 33/11 KV Receiving Substation and electrification of 2,619 unelectrified households in Tulail and Kanzalwan under the premier loss reduction scheme of RDSS at a cost of Rs 50.15 Crore for which the Ministry of Power has already sanctioned the project.   (News Vibes of India)

Srinagar, Oct 29 (NVI) : As a part of Civic Action Program of J&K Police, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi-IPS flagged off 68 students of District Srinagar for (05 days) long Bharat Darshan Tour, accompanied with five care takers. The tour is organized by J&K Police and all boarding & lodging facilities, to & fro air tickets including all other logistic facilities are being provided to touring youth.

An impressive flag-off ceremony was organized at DPL Srinagar. DIG CKR Rajiv Panday-IPS, SSP Srinagar Imtiyaz Hussain-JKPS, SP Hqrs Srinagar Shri Shah Umar-JKPS, DySP DAR DPL Srinagar Shri Mohammad Rafi, ADO ZPHQ Srinagar and other senior police officers were also present on the said occasion.

IGP Kashmir V.K Birdi while interacting with touring students who belongs to different parts of Srinagar District said that Bharat Darshan tour is primarily aimed at providing opportunity to the youth of the district to understand the togetherness of India inspite of immense diversity and advised them to avail the opportunity to enrich their knowledge by visiting historical places and marvels of the country.

IGP Kashmir advised the touring students to imbibe in them greatness of the country and to take full advantage of the opportunity and collect memories for life during the tour, besides wished them a fun-filled, safe and life changing tour.

During the 5 days long tour, the students shall visit the cities of Hyderabad and Delhi. Two Pedestrians Killed in Kishtwar

Kishtwar, Oct 29(NVI): Two pedestrians were killed when a tipper vehicle hit them in Kishtwar district on Tuesday.

According to officials, the accident occurred near Drabshalla in the afternoon. One pedestrian died at the scene, while the other was severely injured and later died in the hospital.

The victims were identified as Bilal Ahmad, son of Ghulam Mustafa, and Ishrat Hussain, son of Mohd Hanief, both from Chinga Bhalessa.

A case has been registered and an investigation is currently in progress, the official said.  (News Vibes of India)

Minibus Overturn’s in Udhampur, Around 30 Passengers Injured

Jammu, Oct 29 (NVI): At least 30 people were injured when a minibus overturned near Shiv Mandir Farna Road in Udhampur district on Tuesday, officials said.

Reports said around 30 to 35 passengers, including 20 students, sustained injuries in the incident.

Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur  Saloni Rai visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured.

She said that local authorities and police assisted in transporting the injured to the hospital.

“An inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of the accident,” an official said.—(News Vibes of India)

Youth Stabbed Near SP College in Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 29(NVI): A youth from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district sustained serious injuries after being stabbed near SP College in Srinagar today.

The incident, which occurred around 1:00 PM, has drawn attention to a possible love triangle involving the victim and the assailant.

Police statement reads, the victim, identified as Momin Ahmad Dar, son of Riyaz Ahmad Dar, was attacked by Arslan Aijaz, the ex-boyfriend of Dar’s girlfriend.

“Reports indicate that the motive for the attack was jealousy stemming from their relationship. Dar suffered stab wounds to his abdomen and head and was immediately transported to SMHS Hospital, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition,” it reads.

“The police registered a case (FIR No. 62/2024) at Kothibagh Police Station and have apprehended Aijaz, who works as a delivery boy for Swiggy. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” reads the statement.

It also reads as, the victim’s girlfriend is reportedly cooperating with police, providing valuable insights into the events leading up to the stabbing. As the investigation progresses, law enforcement is focused on uncovering all details related to the case.

Man dies, another injured in Sonamarg

Srinagar, Oct 29 (NVI): A man was killed and another sustained injuries following a collision between an oil tanker and an Alto car in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district on Tuesday.

According to officials, the incident occurred on the Srinagar-Leh highway when the two vehicles collided, resulting in one death and one injury.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Raza Habiatullah, son of Mohamad Hadi, from Sounko Kargil.

The injured individual, Zakir Hussain Hibatullah, also son of Mohamad Hadi from Sounko Kargil, has been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.  (News Vibes of India)
