Srinagar, June 16 (NVI): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Tuesday issued a nowcast warning forecasting rain and thundershowers across several districts of Kashmir over the next two to three hours.
According to the MeT Centre, rain and thundershowers are expected at many places in Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts, as well as adjoining areas. Several parts of Budgam, the Sonamarg-Baltal-Holy Cave axis, the Pahalgam-Holy Cave axis, parts of south Kashmir and Tral are also likely to witness rainfall activity.
The weather department said a few places may experience brief intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorm and gusty winds.
Issuing an advisory, the MeT Centre urged people to remain indoors during thunderstorms and lightning activity and avoid taking shelter near loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees.
Authorities have also advised suspension of boating and Shikara services in all water bodies, including Dal Lake, for the next three hours as a precautionary measure.
The weather office warned that hailstorms and intense showers at isolated locations in Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora and parts of south Kashmir could trigger flash floods and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow official advisories.—(NVI)
