Heavy rains likely in north India, including PoJK: IMD

New Delhi: Most parts of north India up to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, are likely to receive heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon which is making rapid advance, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

“Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh,” it said.

Heavy rainfall expected at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal.

East Rajasthan, Thunderstorm/#Duststorm with gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) at isolated places very likely over West Rajasthan and Kerala & Mahe are also likely to witness thunderstorms with lighting and lightning is likely at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, it said.

“Thunderstorm/Duststorm with gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) at isolated places over West Rajasthan,” the IMD said.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Konkan & Goa, the IMD said.

Strong Winds (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) very likely over the Arabian Sea and along & off Gujarat coast; South & Central Bay of Bengal and Gulf of Mannar

40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph along & off-West Bengal-Odisha coasts and 40-50 kmph over Lakshadweep area and along/off Kerala-Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD said.
