Jammu (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Election Commissioner, KK Sharma, today directed Deputy Panchayat Election Officers (DPEO) for setting up special polling stations for Kashmiri migrants at Jammu and Udhampur districts so that they can exercise their right to vote in the DDC polls.
While addressing the DPEOs through video conferencing, KK Sharma said, “We have to ensure that every section of society is provided an ample opportunity of exercising their right to vote so that they can also participate in these historic elections meant to strengthen democracy at grass root levels.”
All deputy commissioners concerned of Kashmir division will notify the setting up of polling stations for migrants at Jammu and Udhampur so that they can participate in the upcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections, as per an official statement.
Those registered in Jammu will vote at the designated polling stations at Jammu and those at Udhampur would be voting at polling stations set up in that district.
Sharma also asked DPEOs for ensuring timely dispatch of ballot papers to these polling stations and related election material.
Meanwhile, the deployment of zonal and sectoral magistrates and polling parties for these stations, besides providing necessary training, shall be done by District Magistrates of Jammu and Udhampur respectively.
The Relief Commissioner has also been appointed as Nodal officer for conducting and providing necessary infrastructural support for setting up of these polling stations and polling parties, the statement further said.
Furthermore, Sharma asked IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh, for making the requisite security arrangements.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of Jammu and Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner of J&K, Deputy Commissioners of the Kashmir division, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, IGP Jammu, Joint Director -Information Jammu, SSPs of Jammu and Udhampur, Relief Commissioner, and ARO migrants in Jammu and Udhampur.
