Srinagar (NVI): A terror attack was averted today in Kashmir with the timely detection of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the national highway in Kanihama area.
The IED was detected during patrolling by security forces this morning, officials said.
A team of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called to the spot and the explosive was detonated in controlled conditions near the railway crossing at Kanihama Nowgam station of Srinagar district, the officials said.
The traffic on the highway was stopped for some time and resumed after the IED threat was neutralised.
Earlier, six days back, a low-intensity improvised explosive device (IED), kept in a truck, exploded in Bijbhera area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. However, there was no loss of life or injury reported in that explosion.
Two years back, on February 14, a mobile car-borne IED was used by terrorists to target a convoy of CRPF on the national highway in Pulwama district, which resulted in the killing of 40 security personnel and almost brought India and Pakistan to the brink of an armed conflict.
