Rajouri, August 13 (NVI): Five members of a family fell ill after allegedly consuming water from a local spring in the Moghla area of Kalakote in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said on Thursday.
Four members of the family, residents of the Leth Moghla Jugdian area, developed vomiting and diarrhoea during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday after dinner. They had also consumed water from a local baoli.
The four were taken to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Moghla, where they received initial treatment before being referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Rajouri, for further treatment.
Later, another family member was brought to the PHC with complaints of pain and burning sensation in the throat and mouth, as well as a burning sensation while urinating. He was also referred to GMC Rajouri.
The condition of all five patients was stable and they were out of danger, officials said.
Health authorities have collected water samples from the concerned baoli for testing to determine whether the water was contaminated.
The exact cause of the illness will be established after the test reports are received, officials said.
As a precautionary measure, residents have been advised not to use water from the source for drinking or cooking until the test results are available.
Authorities have urged residents to consume safe and clean water and seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain or weakness.(NVI)
