Udhampur Police arrests most-wanted narco smugglers, seizes Heroin

Udhampur, Jan 07(NVI): In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Udhampur Police apprehended three notorious narco smugglers and recovered a total of 13.48 grams of heroin in two separate operations.

The arrests were made during routine checks at naka points in Rehambal and Tikri, further tightening the noose on the region’s drug network.

A police team from Police Station Rehambal, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), conducted routine vehicle checks at Rehambal naka point on the National Highway (NHW). During the operation, a Bolero car (Registration No. JK14E-1182) traveling from Jammu toward Udhampur was stopped for inspection.

Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 6.1 grams of heroin (Chitta). Two individuals in the car, including the driver, were immediately taken into custody.

Accused identified as Nikhil Sharma alias Nipun, son of Mohinder Kumar, resident of Jakhani, Udhampur and Charanjeet Singh alias Monu, son of Kuldeep Singh, resident of Sangoor, Udhampur.

A case under FIR No. 04/2024, registered under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, has been lodged at Police Station Rehambal. The investigation is underway to uncover possible links to a larger drug syndicate.

In a separate operation, a team from Police Post Tikri stationed at Bansa Morh naka point intercepted a suspicious individual walking on foot from Katra toward Tikri. Upon frisking, 7.38 grams of heroin (Chitta) was recovered from his possession.

The individual was arrested on the spot, and a case was filed under FIR No. 03/2025, invoking sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Rehambal. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source and distribution network.

A senior police officer commended the teams for their vigilance and reaffirmed their commitment to curbing drug trafficking in the district. “We are intensifying our operations against narco-smugglers. These arrests are part of a larger strategy to dismantle the drug supply chain and safeguard the future of our youth,” the officer said.

The Udhampur Police has urged citizens to report suspicious activities and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in combating the growing menace of drug abuse.
