Quetta: Pakistan-occupied Balochistan, where the locals are strongly opposing the ‘so-called’ General Elections being imposed by the Islamabad regime, today saw two big explosions targeting the poll campaign offices, resulting in the killing of over 30 people and injuries to dozens of others.
The General elections are slated for tomorrow and Baloch freedom fighters have vowed to disrupt the exercise as they insist on early independence of Balochistan from Pakistan.
The explosions took place at the election offices of Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) in Qilla Saifullah district and an Independent candidate in Pishin district.
In Pishin district’s Khanazoi area, a suicide bomber blew himself up during an election meeting of Independent candidate Asfandyar Kakar.
At least 18 people were killed and over 30 injured, officials said, adding the toll was likely to go up as several of the wounded were in critical condition.
Another powerful explosion took place in Qilla Saifullah district, in which at least 12 people were killed and 14 injured, according to a statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
He said the injured were being shifted to Quetta in a helicopter.
The twin blasts rocked Balochistan a day after the region saw at least 9 attacks targeting the election offices of candidates and polling stations in various areas of Makran division and Quetta.
Besides these 2 big blasts, several low intensity attacks also took place in various parts of Balochistan.
In Kali Shar Jan area of kohlu district, unidentified persons fired several rockets at a polling station but no loss was reported, officials said.
In Ghareeb Abad area of Panjgur district, unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade but no loss was reported in this attack, officials said.
