New Delhi (NVI): 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind and LeT top commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was sentenced to 15 years in jail by an Anti-Terrorist Court in Lahore today on terror financing charges.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba’s current supreme commander of operations was arrested on Saturday by Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on charges of terror financing.
Lakhvi has been sentenced to different sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 by the Pakistani court.
The LeT commander, who was on bail since 2015 in the Mumbai attack case, has been found guilty of extending financial help to terrorists through different umbrella businesses.
Furthermore, he has been accused of running a dispensary to generate funds for the purpose of diverting the same to terrorists, according to media reports. However, the CTD did not mention his place of arrest.
Lakhvi was designated a global terrorist by the United Nations in 2008 under the UN Security Council Resolution after the November 26, 2008 Mumbai terror attack.
The 26/11 terror attack was one of the deadliest attacks on Indian soil as 10 heavily-armed Lashkar-e-Taiba militants from Pakistan killed over 166 people and injured around 300 others.
