Srinagar (NVI): The first ever foreign delegation of European Union (EU) Parliamentarians to have visited Jammu and Kashmir since the revocation of the special status to the state in August, has backed India’s fight against terrorism saying Kashmir is an internal matter of the country.

“Terrorism in Kashmir is not the problem of India. We feel that it is also problem of the international community and we support India in finding out a better solution to this problem,” the delegation told media persons here.

Stating that terrorism in Kashmir is “severe”, the delegation said, “Terrorism can destroy your country. Terrorism is a world problem and we don’t want Kashmir to become a second Afghanistan”.

The delegation said that they were given a very good presentations by the Army, Police and the civil administrations about the situation in Kashmir.

The members of the delegation said that during the presentation they were apprised of how terrorists were being sent from Pakistan.

The delegation said that they had a very good engagement with the people they met and also praised India for its free press when compared to it’s neighbouring countries.

Justifying their purpose of visit to the Valley, the delegation said, “We are not concerned about Indian politics. Our aim was to meet the local people. Visiting Kashmir was a good experience. The people of Kashmir want peace and development. People want schools and hospitals and good works are being carried out here”.

The delegation while responding to MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s remarks said they were not “Nazi lovers” and were here only for fact finding.

A delegation of European Members of Parliament visited Srinagar on October 29 to assess the ground reality in the Valley after the government gave permission for the “unofficial” visit.
