Srinagar, May 4 (NVI): Police on Monday demolished an illegal residential structure allegedly built using proceeds from narcotics trafficking in the Noorbagh area of Srinagar as part of an intensified crackdown under the anti-drug.
The structure belonged to an alleged drug peddler, identified as Mohammad Irfan Sheikh alias Iff, a resident of Pamposh Colony in Palpora, officials said.
They said the accused is involved in multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act registered at different police stations, including Safakadal and Sangam.
According to police, investigation revealed that the structure had been raised illegally on land acquired using money generated from drug trafficking and was constructed in violation of revenue laws.
Officials said the demolition was carried out after following due legal procedures and in coordination with the concerned authorities.
They added that involvement of some associates and family members of the accused has also surfaced in multiple NDPS cases, pointing to a broader narcotics network.
Police said the action sends a strong message that properties created from proceeds of drug trade will not be spared and those involved will face strict action.
Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, police urged citizens to come forward and support efforts to curb the drug menace in the region.(NVI)
