New Delhi, Jun 28 (NVI): A 32-member Indian Army marching contingent will participate in Seychelles’ 50th National Day celebrations on June 29, marking the Golden Jubilee of the island nation’s Independence, the Defence Ministry said on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the celebrations as the Guest of Honour.

According to the ministry, the Army contingent comprises personnel from the Assam Regiment and is led by Captain Aryan H. Deolekar. An Indian Navy marching contingent, accompanied by a military band, will also take part in the event.

The ministry said the participation of Indian defence contingents in national celebrations of friendly countries reflects mutual trust, military camaraderie and the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

India and Seychelles share longstanding ties that have evolved into a strategic partnership covering defence cooperation, development, culture and trade, it said.

The ministry added that such engagements reinforce defence cooperation and underline India’s role as a reliable partner in promoting peace, stability and security in the Indian Ocean Region.

Indian defence contingents have earlier participated in several international ceremonial events, including the Bastille Day Parade in France in 2023 and Victory Day parades in Bangladesh and Russia, it added.(NVI)
