Srinagar, Jul 6 (NVI): The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the next week, while warning of heavy rainfall that could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of the Jammu region.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy between July 6 and 8, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places across the Union Territory.
Heavy rain accompanied by brief intense showers and thunder is likely at a few places in the Jammu division, particularly during the late afternoon, evening and from late night to early morning, it said.
Several districts in the Kashmir Valley are also likely to receive light to moderate rain during the period, with brief intense showers expected at isolated places, mainly during the afternoon and early morning hours.
From July 9 to 12, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid, with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Isolated areas may also witness brief intense heavy showers accompanied by thunder, the MeT office said.
The department has cautioned that heavy rainfall between July 6 and 8 could trigger localized flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal range.
It has advised people to avoid venturing near nallas, streams and landslide-prone areas during the period.(NVI)
