Srinagar, Aug 19 (NVI): US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Wednesday called on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar during his maiden visit to the Union Territory, with the two sides holding wide-ranging discussions on strengthening engagement across various sectors.
During the meeting, Abdullah expressed confidence that the strong India-US bilateral relationship would have positive outcomes for Jammu and Kashmir, and said he was hopeful of further widening and deepening engagement in areas including tourism, horticulture and the new economy.
Gor described the meeting as cordial and said Jammu and Kashmir’s rich natural heritage had strong appeal for visitors from the United States.
He said potential avenues to facilitate greater tourism and promote travel from the US to Jammu and Kashmir would be explored.
The US delegation included Senior Advisor Chester (Brand) Kroeger, Chief of Staff Lisa Browne, First Secretary Gary Applegarth and Political Advisor A. Sukesh.
Those from the Jammu and Kashmir government who attended the meeting included Cabinet Minister Sakeena Itoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Rajya Sabha member Gurwinder Singh Oberoi and MLA Tanvir Sadiq.(NVI)
