Srinagar, Sep 22 (NVI): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the government is taking several measures to promote and diversify tourism across Jammu Division and develop the region as a year-round tourist destination.
Speaking during the ongoing session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the government is focusing on developing new and existing tourist destinations by upgrading infrastructure and improving facilities for visitors.
He said major development interventions have been planned at tourist destinations including Suchetgarh, Shiv Khori, Bhaderwah, Basohli and Mansar.
Omar also highlighted the ongoing development of five pilgrimage circuits covering destinations including Mansar, Shiv Khori, Uttarvehni and Purmandal.
He said the government is undertaking sustained promotional activities at the local, national and international levels through tourism expos, festivals, travel marts and digital publicity campaigns.
The initiatives, he said, are aimed at increasing the visibility of Jammu’s tourist destinations and creating livelihood opportunities for local residents through homestays, tour guiding and other tourism-related services.—(NVI)
