Srinagar, Jun 15 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated a free breast cancer screening programme in Srinagar aimed at promoting early detection and awareness of the disease among women.
The initiative, launched by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in collaboration with India Turns Pink (ITP), will provide free breast cancer screening services to women in selected villages of Srinagar district.
Speaking at the launch event at the Civil Secretariat, Abdullah lauded the efforts of AAI and the implementing agency for undertaking a significant public health initiative focused on women’s health and welfare.
He stressed the importance of early detection and timely treatment in reducing breast cancer-related mortality and improving health outcomes.
According to officials, the programme aims to cover 10 villages in Srinagar district and benefit nearly 10,000 women through free screening, awareness campaigns and counselling services.
The initiative is expected to enhance awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular health check-ups and strengthen preventive healthcare among women, they said.
Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, founder president of India Turns Pink P.A. Anandakumar, representatives of the organisation and senior officials were present on the occasion.(NVI)
