New Delhi: Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid, who is currently imprisoned in a terror-funding case in Jammu and Kashmir, will be able to take oath as a Member of the Lok Sabha on July 5 as Delhi’s Patiala court today allowed him a parole of two hours on that day.

Rashid, who was elected from Baramulla Constituency in Kashmir in the recent elections, had sought interim bail or custody parole to take oath as an MP.

Rashid won the elections as an Independent candidate even while being in jail.

He defeated Omar Abdullah, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and top leader of National Conference.

Engineer Rashid is the founder and leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Ittehad Party.

Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) gave its consent for him to take the oath on July 5 under certain conditions, including not interacting with media. (NVI)
