New Delhi, June 27: Tensions flared up once again in West Asia as US military carried out airstrikes on Iran following an attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian media reported that after the US attack, Iran military targeted American based in the West Asian region.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes targeted drone and missile storage sites, along with radar installations.

“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted strikes against Iran, June 26, as a powerful response to yesterday’s attack on a commercial ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” it said in a post on X.

“U.S. aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites after Iran hit M/V Ever Lovely on June 25 with a one-way attack drone. The Singapore-flagged cargo ship was exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast at the time of Iran’s attack,” the CENTCOM said.

“The unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire.

“Furthermore, Iran’s dangerous behavior undermined freedom of navigation as commerce increasingly flows through the vital international trade corridor,” it added.

The fresh escalation puts a question mark on the peace deal signed by the US and Iran and the ongoing negotiations for a comprehensive agreement.

Meanwhile, Israel and Lebanon signed a new framework peace agreement, which triggered widespread violent protests and arson in Lebanon.

The protesters feel Lebanon has bowed to Israel.
