Srinagar (NVI): Two unidentified terrorist have been killed this morning in an ongoing encounter that broke out in Ranbirgarh, Lawaypora in Srinagar, police said.
The encounter started after security forces launched a joint operation in Ranbirgarh, Lawaypora on the city outskirts, after receiving a specific tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area.
“As the joint teams of security forces zeroed in on the spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately at the forces, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire,” a police official said.
He also said that encounter broke out at around 9 am and in the initial exchange of firing, two unidentified terrorist were killed. “Since past one hour, there is no exchange of fire between the two sides. We have launched a massive search in the area and the cordon has been tightened to ensure no terrorist manages to escape from the area,” he said.
The officer said that identity of the slain terrorist is being ascertained.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that two unidentified terrorist have been killed in an encounter at Ranbirgarh, Lawaypora. “The operation is underway,” he added.
This year so far, 146 terrorists have been killed in various encounters with the security forces which include over 60 from Hizbul Mujahideen outfit alone while Lashkar-e-Tobia and Jaish-e-Muhammad each lost 25 terrorists each including top commanders.
