LG Sinha Congratulates Surgeon on Completing 100 Joint Replacement Surgeries Under SEHAT Scheme

Jammu, June 8 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday congratulated senior joint replacement surgeon Dr. Vikas Padha and his team for successfully completing 100 joint replacement surgeries on patients from remote areas of Poonch and Rajouri under the Ayushman Bharat SEHAT Scheme.

Dr. Padha, a senior joint replacement surgeon at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, called on the Lieutenant Governor and apprised him about the milestone achieved through the healthcare initiative.

The Lieutenant Governor lauded the efforts of Dr. Padha and his medical team in extending advanced healthcare services to people living in far-flung areas and wished them continued success in their service to society.

The surgeries were carried out under the Ayushman Bharat SEHAT Scheme, which provides health insurance coverage and access to quality medical treatment for eligible beneficiaries across Jammu and Kashmir.(NVI)

Jammu, Jun 8 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday visited the historic Gada Dari temple inside the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex here and directed officials to take immediate steps for the restoration and preservation of the centuries-old shrine following reports of damage to the structure.

During the visit, Sinha reviewed the extent of the damage and stressed the importance of protecting the region’s cultural and religious heritage, officials said.

He directed the concerned departments and executing agencies to undertake restoration work in a time-bound manner while ensuring that the temple’s original architectural character is preserved.

Officials briefed the lieutenant governor about the circumstances surrounding the damage and the proposed restoration plan.

Sinha instructed the administration to expedite conservation measures and take necessary steps to prevent any further deterioration of the historic structure.

The Gada Dari temple, located within the iconic Mubarak Mandi complex, is considered an important part of Jammu’s cultural and religious heritage.(NVI)

POJK on boil as Pakistani forces kill over 200 Kashmiris, injure thousands

Rawalakot (Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir), June 8: Pakistani forces have killed over 200 and injured thousands others in a brutal operation against a peaceful protest by people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, igniting further outrage among the locals who have vowed to carry on with their agitation against Pakistan’s rule.

The killed even include a Kashmiri Superintendent of Police and a few other local police personnel who tried to dissuade the Pakistani military personnel from using disproportionate force against the peaceful protesters raising voice against the Pakistani atrocities, according to local journalists.

The Pakistani military, who have freshly-arrived from Pakistan in large numbers, are engaged in eliminating the evidence about the huge number of killings by disposing off bodies of those killed, a local journalist said.

According to various people, including journalists, at least 200 Kashmiris have been killed and thousands injured in firing by Pakistani military personnel in various parts of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

The Pakistani military has also been raiding residences of civilians.

Womenfolk have come out openly, complaining about the sexual harassment meted out to them.

Rawalakot has been the worst affected as the biggest number of casualties have occurred in this town.

Hospitals have been overwhelmed with the dead and injured civilians and burial grounds are busy because of the increasing killings by the occupation forces.

The situation is so alarming that Showkat Nawaz, the leader of Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) which is spearheading the agitation, is appealing to Kashmiris all around the world to amplify the plight of their brethren in Pakistan-occupied territories of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Protests are being organised across the PoJK to express resentment against the atrocities and humiliation being meted out to the people of the occupied region by Pakistan.

Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a conglomerate of various Kashmiri organisations, had given a call for an indefinite agitation to press Pakistan to end its interference in the affairs of PoJK, besides other things.

Although the protest was to start tomorrow as per the original call, it started early as Pakistan launched a brutal crackdown on the members and supporters of JAAC by arresting and raiding residential places.

JAAC had declared that the agitation would be peaceful from their side.

At the same time, their members had warned that if Pakistani State resorted to force, the protesters would not behave like “(Mahatma) Gandhi”.

“We want to be so peaceful that even a flower pot will not be broken by us. But we will not behave like Gandhi that anyone can hit us and get away… We will teach them a lesson,” said a leader of the protest at a public meeting in Rawalakot amid cheers from the crowd.

As apprehended by the organisers of the agitation, thousands of Pakistani military personnel tried to crush the protest and chase away the participants.

But the dare-devil protesters refused to obey and stood their ground all over PoJK.

The Pakistani forces resorted to large-scale firing, including direct shooting at the protesters, and it resulted in the killing and wounding of several agitationists.

Summing up the developments, JAAC said in a social media post last night: “Today, when tear gas and bullets rained down on the resolute people staging a sit-in, instead of fleeing, they became even more steadfast. The skies of Rawalakot echoed not with fear, but with chants of revolution. Salute to that courage, that determination and that fearlessness.” (NVI)

15 Injured After Bus Skids Off Road in J-K’s Rajouri

Jammu, Jun 8 (NVII): At least 15 people were injured when a canter bus skidded off the road along the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway in Rajouri district on Monday, officials said.

The bus, bearing registration number JK11A-071, lost control near the Tandwal area and veered off the road, they said.

All the injured passengers were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said, adding that their condition was being assessed.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further investigation into the cause of the accident, they said.(NVI)

M.Sc Nursing Exam Cancelled in Jammu and Kashmir Due To Certain Discrepancies

Srinagar, June 8 (NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) has cancelled the M.Sc Nursing Entrance Examination after discrepancies were detected in candidate-specific OMR answer sheets shortly before the test was scheduled to begin, officials said.

The examination, which was to be conducted at centres in Jammu and Srinagar, was called off after a mismatch was noticed between candidates’ details printed on the OMR sheets during the mandatory pre-examination verification process.

JKBOPEE Chairperson Prof. Meenu Mahajan said the answer sheets carried incorrect candidate particulars, including mismatches between names and roll numbers, due to a printing-level error.

She said the Board decided to cancel the examination to safeguard the integrity of the evaluation process and maintain the sanctity of the common merit list. Since a common merit list is prepared for the entire Union Territory, the examination could not be conducted selectively and had to be cancelled at all centres simultaneously.

According to officials, 513 candidates were scheduled to appear in the examination, including 348 in Srinagar and 165 in Jammu. The abrupt cancellation caused inconvenience to several aspirants who had travelled from different districts to appear for the test.

The Chairperson assured candidates that a fresh examination schedule would be notified separately and said the Board would initiate an inquiry into the lapse.

Amit Shah’s Amarnath Yatra Review Meeting Rescheduled to June 12

Jammu, Jun 8 (NVI): A high-level meeting to be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to review security and other arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir has been rescheduled to June 12, official sources said today.

The meeting was orginally scheduled to take place in New Delhi today.

The 57-day annual yatra to the holy cave of Lord Shiva in the mountains of South Kashmir is scheduled to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28 on the occasion of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.

The meeting is being convened to review security arrangements and facilities being put in place for pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir.

Sources said senior Jammu and Kashmir officials have been informed about the revised schedule.

The meeting, to be chaired by Shah, will be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti and other senior officials from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, representatives of intelligence agencies, chiefs of central armed police forces and Army officers are also likely to participate.

The meeting will assess preparedness related to security, healthcare, sanitation, accommodation, transportation and other arrangements for pilgrims, sources said.

Authorities are expecting a large turnout of devotees this year amid a rise in tourist arrivals to Jammu and Kashmir and strong response to the registration process for the pilgrimage, they added.

Meanwhile, deployment of central security forces for the pilgrimage has commenced across Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Home Ministry has sanctioned 670 companies of paramilitary forces for yatra-related security duties, sources said.

In the Jammu region, security arrangements are being strengthened from Lakhanpur, the entry point to the Union Territory, covering national highways, railway stations, airports, bus terminals and Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas.

In Kashmir, elaborate security measures are being put in place at the Baltal and Nunwan base camps, along the twin pilgrimage routes and at the cave shrine, officials said.

Additional security arrangements are also being made at locations designated for pilgrims’ stay and movement.

According to officials, all security and logistical arrangements are expected to be fully operational at least a week before the commencement of the yatra.

During the June 12 meeting, Shah is expected to review the preparedness of security and civil departments and assess measures aimed at ensuring the safe and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, sources said.

Discussions are likely to focus on security deployment, protection of pilgrim convoys, counter-terror measures, emergency response systems, healthcare facilities, communication networks, intelligence coordination and contingency planning, they added.(NVI)

Still, the protests are continuing even at night, with the Kashmiris repeatedly expressing the resolve not to be subdued anymore.

Reflecting a new resolve of determination, an elderly Kashmiri man, while addressing a crowd, said the time of suffering the humiliation at the hands of Pakistan was over.

He asked the crowd whether Kashmiris should continue to suffer humiliation or choose death. He added the he himself would choose death over humiliation.

“We will choose death rather than live a humiliating life,” the crowd said in unison.

The agitation call has received strong support from the Kashmiri diaspora across the world and they staged protest in front of Pakistani Embassies and Consulates in various countries.

Even before it started, Pakistan had tried to crush the protest by arresting and raiding members and supporters of JAAC.

It had also put a lot of curbs across PoJK but to no avail.

Ahead of the protest day, Pakistan had sent tens of thousands of military personnel into PoJK, in addition to lakhs of those already present in the illegally occupied reigon.

Pakistan militarily captured the region, which is a part of Jammu and Kashmir, in October 1947 when the undivided region had not yet acceded to India. (NVI)

Live Shell Safely Defused in Uri Area of North Kashmir

Srinagar, June 7 (NVI): A live shell was safely defused by a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) in the Gutliyan area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, officials said.

The shell was detected in the Bosiyan Dara area following which the BDS was called to the spot to carry out a controlled disposal operation, officials said.

The squad successfully neutralised the shell, ensuring the safety of local residents and preventing any potential threat, they added.

Police personnel also assisted in securing the area during the operation.

No casualties, injuries, or damage to property were reported, officials said.(NVI)

Quetta (Balochistan), June 7: Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) today claimed responsibility for the killing of senior Military Intelligence (MI) Officer of Pakistan Lieutenant Colonel Arsalan Haleem and three others in an attack in Balochistan.

Haleem and three other Pakistani military personnel were killed in an armed attack in Kalatuk area of Turbat district yesterday, BLA spokesman Jeeyand Baloch said in a brief statement.

He said the operation was conducted based on confidential and verified intelligence provided by ZIRAB, the intelligence wing of the BLA.

Further details regarding this operation will be released to the media soon, the spokesman said.

Quetta (Balochistan), June 7: Baloch Raji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS), a conglomerate of armed Baloch freedom fighter groups, today claimed to have killed more than 8 personnel of the occupying Pakistani military in twin-attacks in Khuzdar district.

“The fighters of the Baloch Raji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) carried out intense attacks against the occupying Pakistani military in BalBal, an area of Zehri in Khuzdar, inflicting losses on the enemy forces,” it said in a statement to NVI today.

It said BRAS fighters ambushed a convoy of several occupying military vehicles from multiple directions in BalBal area on the morning of June 2.

The ambush was carried out when the Pakistani military convoy was proceeding for military barbarism.

In the attack, 8 personnel of the occupying army were killed on the spot, and one vehicle was completely destroyed, while the enemy forces were forced to retreat, the statement said.

“Later in the afternoon, the occupying army attempted to advance into the area again, using tanks, armored vehicles, and other military vehicles. The Baloch fighters launched another attack against the occupying forces,” it said.

During this attack, one armored vehicle was severely damaged, and the military suffered additional casualties, the statement added.
