Chilla-e-Kalan ends on a dry note, Kashmir braces for fresh spell of snow

File Photo

NVI Correspondent

Srinagar, Jan 30 (NVI): The harshest 40-day winter period, Chilla-e-Kalan, officially ended today on an unusually dry note, with below-average snowfall recorded across Kashmir.

The prolonged dry spell has sparked concerns over water availability, agriculture, and winter tourism in the region.

Unlike previous years, when heavy snowfall would blanket the Valley, this season witnessed sporadic snowfall in higher reaches while the plains remained largely dry. The absence of significant precipitation has also contributed to colder nights and warmer-than-usual days, as clear skies prevented the usual winter chill from intensifying.

However, the Meteorological Department has predicted a fresh spell of rain and snow in the first week of February, which could provide some relief to farmers, orchardists, and tourism stakeholders who rely on seasonal snowfall.

With Chilla -e-Kalan now over, Kashmir transitions into the 20-day Chillai-Khurd (lesser cold) phase, followed by the 10-day Chillai-Bachha (baby cold) period, before the onset of spring. While residents remain hopeful for late-season snowfall, experts warn that the prolonged dry spell could impact water resources, including drinking water supply, irrigation, and glacier reserves, which are critical for the summer months.

Authorities and environmentalists are closely monitoring the situation, as any significant deviation in snowfall patterns could have long-term consequences for Kashmir’s ecosystem and economy. (News Vibes of India)

Srinagar, Jan 29(NVI): National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi met Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the influential religious and political leader of the Hurriyat Conference, in Delhi today.

Despite their contrasting political views, the two leaders held a significant discussion focusing on Jammu and Kashmir’s evolving political landscape, particularly in light of the abrogation of Article 370, the demand for restoration of statehood, and the ongoing issue of political prisoners.

Engineer Rashid seeks interim bail to attend Budget Session of Parliament

NVI Correspondent

Srinagar, Jan 29(NVI): Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid  has approached the Delhi High Court, requesting interim bail in connection with the ongoing terror-funding case to enable him to attend the budget session of Parliament.

The session is scheduled to begin on January 31 and will run until April 4.

Rashid, who represents the Baramulla constituency and was elected in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has been incarcerated in Tihar Jail since 2019. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in relation to a 2017 terror-funding investigation. The case alleges that Rashid was involved in conspiring to wage war against India and inciting violence in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, prominent figures such as Hafiz Saeed, the chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Syed Salahuddin, leader of Hizbul Mujahideen, are implicated in the same case.

In his application, Rashid requested to be granted custody parole for the duration of the budget session, citing his need to represent his constituents in Parliament. His legal team argued that the delay in processing his bail has resulted in a lack of representation for his constituency during important legislative discussions.(News Vibes of India)

NVI Correspondent

Srinagar, Jan 29(NVI) The National Health Mission (NHM), Jammu & Kashmir, has issued a warning regarding fake job advertisements that are circulating on social media, particularly claiming to offer positions for Community Health Officers (CHO) under the JKNHM CHO Recruitment 2024.

According to NHM J&K, these advertisements are misleading and false, with no official recruitment notices currently issued for CHOs or any other staff by the State Health Society, NHM J&K.

Casual employees of Wildlife Department protest outside CM residence in Srinagar over delayed wages

NVI Correspondent

Srinagar, Jan 29(NVI): A group of casual employees from the Wildlife Department today staged a protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Srinagar demanding justice over the non-disbursement of their wages and delay in regularisation.

Around 50 employees gathered, raising concerns over repeated delays in salary payments, which have left them struggling financially.

The protestors, holding placards and chanting slogans, urged the government to ensure the timely release of their dues. They expressed frustration over their uncertain job status and the lack of regular wages despite years of service.

“We have families to support, and it has become extremely difficult to manage our daily expenses without timely wages. We are not asking for anything extra, just what we rightfully earn,” said one of the protestors.

Responding to the demonstration, former Chief Minister and senior National Conference leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah met with the protesting employees and assured them that their grievances would be addressed. He acknowledged their concerns and promised to take up the matter with the administration to ensure timely payment of wages.

“The government must ensure that hardworking employees receive their dues on time. I will personally speak to the concerned authorities to resolve this issue at the earliest,” Dr. Abdullah told the protestors.

Following his assurance, the employees expressed hope for a quick resolution. However, they warned that if their demands were not met soon, they would intensify their protests in the coming days.

This demonstration underscores the ongoing challenges faced by contractual and casual workers in government departments, who continue to demand job security and regular salaries.(News Vibes of India)

File Photo : J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah

NVI Correspondent

Srinagar, Jan 28 (NVI):In a significant statement on ongoing national debates, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah underscored the ultimate role of Parliament in deciding contentious issues like the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Abdullah addressed the recent developments in Uttarakhand and the deliberations over the Waqf Bill, emphasising the importance of democratic processes.

On Uttarakhand’s move to implement the UCC, Abdullah remained composed. “Let them do it. They may do what they want. The final decision will be made in Parliament,” he remarked, reiterating that such matters require consensus and national debate before implementation. His statement came amidst growing discussions about the implications of a UCC on India’s pluralistic society.

Regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Omar Abdullah clarified that no legislation has been finalized yet. “The bill is currently under review by a parliamentary committee, and discussions are underway,” he explained. Abdullah noted that stakeholders, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, have presented their views to the committee, urging patience as the process unfolds. “Let the committee do its work, and after that, there will be a debate in Parliament,” he added.

The Chief Minister’s remarks highlight his confidence in the parliamentary system as the appropriate platform for resolving such complex issues. His measured response reflects the delicate balance required when addressing topics that affect the nation’s social fabric.

The ongoing discourse surrounding the UCC and Waqf Bill has sparked widespread discussion across India. While some view these reforms as steps toward equality and modernization, others fear they may undermine the diversity and autonomy of various communities. Abdullah’s insistence on parliamentary deliberation underscores the need for an inclusive and transparent approach.

As debates continue, Omar Abdullah’s comments remind us of the importance of patience and dialogue in resolving sensitive matters that shape the nation’s future. For now, the spotlight remains on Parliament, where the final decisions on these critical issues will ultimately unfold. (News Vibes of India)
