‘Tens of civilians’ were killed or injured in Pakistani attacks on Afghanistan yesterday: UN Body
Taliban minister describes Pakistani regime as 'slaves' of 'infidels'

Smoke emanating after Pakistani miissile strike in Afghanistan on Monday

Kabul, Apr 28: A United Nations body today said “tens of civilians” were killed or injured in Afghanistan in strikes yesterday, echoing the assertion by the furious Taliban regime which described the government in Islamabad as a “slave” of “infidels”.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani military indulged in fresh shelling on various parts of Afghanistan today, prompting the Taliban regime to lodge a formal protest by summoning its Acting Ambassador to the Foreign Ministry in Kabul this evening.

Pakistani military yesterday violated a three-week-old ceasefire agreement by resorting to cross-border attacks using missiles and heavy artillery.

The attacks targeted multiple locations in Kunar Province border Pakistan, including the campus of Kunar University damaging the building and injuring at least 30 lecturers and students, according to Taliban authorities.

The Taliban authorities said at least seven people were killed and around 75 others wounded, many of them women and children.

They said the toll could rise as several of the injured remain in critical condition.

However, other sources said at least 13 civilians were killed and scores of others injured yesterday.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) today said it has “documented dozens of civilians killed or injured” in yesterday’s Pakistani strikes in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province.

In a post on X, it said, “The international humanitarian law requires the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, including educational institutions.”

The Taliban regime’s Minister of Higher Education Mullah Nida Mohammad Nadeem, who visited the university campus in Kunar today, said the Pakistan government is a “regime that serves foreign, non-islamic interests”.

He added that Pakistan acts at the directions of “infidels”, to whom it is subservient.

The latest Pakistani strikes are part of a series of cross-border attacks that began in October last year.

Intervention by some regional countries resulted in a ceasefire, which was violated by Pakistan on February 21 when it again resorted to air strikes inside Afghanistan, killing dozens of civilians.

New Delhi, April 28: Multilateralism and international law are facing serious challenges, President of the United Nations General Assembly Annalena Baerbock said here today against the backdrop of intense West Asia crisis.

Baerbock, who was on a day-long visit to India amid rising geopolitical tensions and growing pressure on the international system, called for strengthened global cooperation and renewed commitment to the United Nations Charter.

“Today, the United Nations, multilateralism, and international law are not only under pressure, but under direct attack,” she said, pointing to increasing fragmentation and strain across the pillars of peace and security, development, and human rights,” she said at a press briefing at UN House in New Delhi.

She stressed that no country can address today’s interconnected global challenges alone, citing climate change, global health crises such as COVID-19, and the economic impact of conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and disruptions to global trade routes.

Complying with international law and delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals is in the interest of all,” she added.

During her visit, President Baerbock held bilateral discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, focusing on strengthening cooperation on shared global priorities.

Highlighting India’s role, she described the country as an essential partner in advancing multilateral solutions.

The President also underscored the need for a more efficient and responsive United Nations, noting ongoing UN80 reform efforts to strengthen delivery at the country level and improve impact on people’s lives.

During her stay, she met with senior government officials, representatives of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the UN Country Team in India, as well as representatives of the UN Country Team in Bhutan.

She will travel onward to China from 29 to 30 April for further high-level engagements.

Can Netanyahu’s Rivals Really Change Israel’s War Strategy—or Just Its Politics?

Can Netanyahu’s Rivals Really Change Israel’s War Strategy—or Just Its Politics?
Can Netanyahu’s Rivals Really Change Israel’s War Strategy—or Just Its Politics?

New Delhi, April 28: A new political alliance in Israel is stirring attention, but its real impact may be more about leadership than a dramatic shift in national security policy.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and opposition leader Yair Lapid have announced a joint front ahead of the 2026 elections, aiming to unseat current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Their merged political platform, called “BeYachad” (meaning “together”), signals a renewed attempt to consolidate opposition forces after years of fragmented challenges.

Why Are Bennett and Lapid Joining Forces?

The alliance is primarily driven by domestic concerns rather than foreign policy differences. A central issue is military conscription—specifically, extending mandatory service to the ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) community, a long-standing and divisive topic in Israeli politics.

They have also committed to launching an independent inquiry into the failures surrounding the October 7, 2023 attacks, a move Netanyahu has resisted. Questions about Netanyahu’s health and ongoing corruption trial have further intensified calls for leadership change.

Will This Alliance Shift Israel’s Security Policy?

Despite positioning themselves as political alternatives, Bennett and Lapid largely align with Netanyahu on key security issues:

  • Iran: Both support continued military pressure and potential strikes against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
  • Gaza: They argue Netanyahu has not gone far enough, criticizing his approach for allowing Hamas to regroup.
  • Lebanon: The pair backed recent military operations against Hezbollah and remain skeptical of ceasefires that don’t eliminate long-term threats.
  • Palestinian Statehood: Bennett strongly opposes it, while Lapid’s earlier support has softened due to current public sentiment.

In essence, while their rhetoric differs, their strategic outlook remains broadly consistent with existing policy.

A Look Back: Have They Done This Before?

Bennett and Lapid are no strangers to political collaboration. In 2021, they successfully formed a diverse coalition government that briefly removed Netanyahu from power. That government, however, lasted just over a year due to internal divisions.

Their earlier partnership in 2013 also reshaped coalition dynamics by sidelining ultra-Orthodox parties something they now seek to repeat.

Netanyahu’s Counterattack

Netanyahu has already begun framing the alliance as a risky repeat of past governance, highlighting its reliance on diverse—and sometimes conflicting—political partners

So, What’s Really at Stake?

The upcoming election may not drastically alter Israel’s security doctrine, but it could redefine leadership style, accountability, and domestic priorities. The Bennett-Lapid alliance is betting that voters are ready for a unified alternative even if the core policies remain familiar.

Pakistani Cricketer ‘Hates’ All Indian Bowlers

Hasan Nawaz Sparks Row With ‘I Hate All Indian Bowlers’ Remark, Faces Social Media Backlash
Hasan Nawaz Sparks Row With ‘I Hate All Indian Bowlers’ Remark, Faces Social Media Backlash

New Delhi, April 28: Pakistani Cricketer Hasan Nawaz has landed in controversy after a remark about Indian bowlers went viral on social media, drawing criticism from cricket fans across both India and Pakistan.

The Pakistan batter, who featured for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League 2026 season, made the comment during a local TV interview. When asked which bowlers he would like to face, Nawaz responded that he “hates all Indian bowlers,” adding that he is especially motivated to score runs against India.

Viral Clip Triggers Online Outrage

The statement, widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter), quickly drew backlash. Many users criticised the remark as unnecessary and unsportsmanlike, arguing that such comments go beyond typical on-field banter.

Interestingly, several Pakistani fans were among the first to call out Nawaz, expressing disappointment and suggesting that the young batter had provided fodder for trolling by Indian supporters.

Performance Criticism Adds Fuel

Indian users on social media were quick to respond, with some pointing to Nawaz’s modest performance against India in the Asia Cup 2025, where he scored just 5 runs in a losing effort. The contrast between his on-field record and strong off-field statement became a focal point of the online reaction.

Debate Over Media Training

The incident has also sparked a broader conversation about the need for media training for emerging cricketers. Fans from both countries questioned whether young players are adequately prepared to handle public interactions and high-pressure interviews.

While “trash talk” has long been a part of competitive sports, many observers felt Nawaz’s comment crossed the line, highlighting the fine balance between confidence and sportsmanship in modern cricket.

New Delhi, Apr 28 (NVI): In a well-coordinated operation, Indian authorities have secured deportation of transnational drug trafficking kingpin Salim Dola, who is also a close associate of gangster Dawood Ibrahim, from Turkey.

59-year-old Dola, who hails from Mumbai, was brought here this morning and formally arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials.

He was brought from Turkey where he had been detained three days back by the country’s authorities on the basis of inputs provided by the Indian intelligence agencies.

He was living in Beylikduzu in Turkey under a false identity.

Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice against Dola at the request of CBI, the nodal agency for Interpol in India, as he was wanted by the NCB and Mumbai Police in various cases.

According to sources, Dola is a key operative who runs Dawood’s drug network and had recently entered mephedrone manufacturing at clandestine laboratories across different states.

He has been active since the 1980s, particularly in Mumbai’s Dongri area and has been linked to many drug busts.

He was earlier arrested by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Police, and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) before he jumped bail and fled the country sometime in 2018.

The Mumbai police found his involvement in a 2024 case related to the seizure of around 126 kg of mephedrone in Mumbai and traced the supply chain from Maharashtra to Turkey and Dubai.

“Salim Dola (59 yrs from Mumbai), a subject of INTERPOL Red Notice issued at India’s request in March, 2024, was wanted for prosecution in multiple narcotics trafficking cases in India and had been absconding from Indian law enforcement agencies,” the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.

“Over the years, Dola had established a major transnational drug trafficking syndicate spanning several countries in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. His two-decade-long criminal antecedents include direct involvement in cases involving multiple high-value seizures of Heroin, Charas, Mephedrone, Mandrax and Methamphetamine in Maharashtra and Gujarat,” the Ministry of Home Affairs added.

“Dola’s role consistently emerged as that of a bulk supplier to downstream distribution networks in India. Besides, he is also wanted by ATS Gujarat and the Mumbai Police. Earlier, his son Tahil Salim Dola and other associates were arrested by Mumbai police after deportation/extradition from the UAE in 2025. This effort exemplifies close cooperation and coordinated action between the authorities in Turkiye, INTERPOL and Indian agencies,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
