Northwest & East India likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning: IMD

New Delhi: Parts of Northwest and East India are expected to witness thunderstorms along with lightning and gusty winds exceeding up to 40 kmph, the IMD said today.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi.”

“With lightning at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep, ” the IMD said in its daily weather bulletin.

The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Bihar, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Strong Winds (speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over Southwest, Westcentral & north-west Arabian Sea and Gulf of Mannar.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD said.
