New Delhi (NVI): Vaccine makers BioNTech and Pfizer today said that their Covid-19 vaccine is safe for young adolescents and teens and that it was found 100% effective in battling the deadly infection in 12–15-year-olds.
Pertinent to mention here that Pfizer’s Covid vaccine is the first in the world whose test results have shown 100% efficacy on children, as claimed by the pharma company.
Currently, Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine is authorised only for people aged 16 years and above. The global Covid-19 vaccination drive, including in India, has primarily focussed on vaccinating adults and senior citizens only.
However, with Pfizer’s announcement today, many countries are expected to start vaccinating children also, soon as inoculation of human population against the Covid-19 infection in each age group is essential to end the pandemic.
According to some reports in foreign media, Pfizer would ask US health regulators to expand the use of its Covid vaccine shots to 12–15-year-olds too.
