Srinagar, June 17 (NVI): The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy weather with intermittent rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir till June 25, while advising residents to take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that on June 17, weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at many places, particularly during the afternoon hours.
He said that from June 18 to June 22, generally cloudy conditions are likely to prevail with one or two spells of light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning and gusty winds at many places across the Union Territory.
According to the forecast, weather from June 23 to June 25 is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at a few places.
The MeT Department has advised orchardists to undertake spray operations during the early morning hours.
It also urged people to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees during thunderstorms and gusty winds. Boating activities, including Shikara rides, should be avoided during adverse weather conditions, the advisory said.
The department warned of the possibility of hailstorms accompanied by brief intense showers at isolated places over the next five days.
It further cautioned that intense showers could trigger flash floods and mudslides at vulnerable locations in the Union Territory.(NVI)
