New Delhi (NVI): Taking note of some hospitals denying cashless health insurance for Covid-19 patients, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said that she has asked IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority) chairman to act immediately.

FM Sitharaman said that she has spoken to IRDAI chairman SC Khuntia on this and asked him to ensure that all hospitals accept cashless health insurance as Covid-19 was included as a part of comprehensive health insurance in March 2020.

She further said that cashless insurance is available at networked as well as temporary hospitals.

“Reports are being received of some hospitals denying cashless insurance. Spoken to Chairman, IRDAI Shri SC Khuntia to act immediately. In March’20 #Covid included as a part of comprehensive health insurance. Cashless available at networked or even temporary hospitals,” she tweeted.

In another tweet, Sitharaman said that over nine lakh Covid related claims have been settled by insurance companies for RS 8642 crore, as on April 20, 2021.

“As on 20/4/21, over 9 lakh #Covid related claims have been settled by insurance companies for ₹8642 Cr. Even tele-consultations can be covered. IRDAI shall direct companies to prioritise authorisations and settlements of #Covid cases,” she tweeted.
