Jammu, Jan 08(NVI): A severe cold wave coupled with dense fog has brought life to a standstill in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, forcing residents to adapt their daily routines to the harsh weather.
Morning visibility has plummeted to dangerous levels, creating significant risks for road commuters and pedestrians.
Authorities have urged motorists to use fog lights and drive cautiously to prevent accidents. Many have postponed non-essential travel due to the perilous conditions on highways and major roads.
Schoolchildren are among the worst affected, with many struggling to navigate the dense fog. Local businesses, particularly along Dhar Road, have also taken a hit, with shops opening late and closing early due to reduced customer movement.
The freezing temperatures and heavy fog have further posed health risks, especially for the elderly and those with respiratory conditions. Healthcare providers have advised residents to stay indoors, dress warmly, and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.
