Srinagar, May 23 (NVI): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Kumar Sharma, on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleging that his focus remains on foreign tours rather than addressing public issues in the Union Territory.
Sharma described the Chief Minister as a “tourist-in-chief” and claimed that Abdullah had remained away from Jammu and Kashmir for the past 10 days while people continued to face problems related to electricity, water supply and healthcare facilities.
“The Chief Minister seems more interested in foreign tours than governance. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are facing several hardships, but the government is missing from the ground,” Sharma told reporters.
He alleged that Abdullah was handling a large number of key departments, including Finance, Power Development, General Administration, Tourism and Revenue, but was not giving adequate attention to administration.
Sharma further criticised the Chief Minister over his past travel plans, referring to an earlier proposed visit to Paris during a period when apple growers in Kashmir were allegedly facing difficulties due to highway disruptions.
He also said the BJP was considering filing a “missing report” at the Ram Munshi Bagh police station over the Chief Minister’s alleged absence from the Union Territory.
“We are consulting legal experts to explore whether a Habeas Corpus petition can also be filed seeking his appearance before the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Sharma said.
There was no immediate response from the ruling National Conference or the Chief Minister’s office to the remarks made by the BJP leader.(NVI)
