Police arrests two drug peddlers in Srinagar, contraband substances recovered

Srinagar, Nov 26(NVI) : Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Police said today, during naka checking at 90 Feet Road near Matoo Steel, two vehicles (Scooty) bearing registration No JK01AN-6945 and (Zen) bearing registration No. JK01H-5675) were intercepted which were coming simultaneously from Awantabawan and moving towards Elahibagh.

During search of vehicle (Zen Car), 10 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from the driver of said car. He has been identified as Shabir Ahmed Mir son of Gh. Qadir resident of Bilal Colony Soura. Similarly, during the search of Scooty rider 6 grams of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered from his possession.

The accused rider has been identified as Shah Murtaza Iqbal son of Mohd Iqbal Shah resident of Bilal Colony Soura. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.

During questioning, it came to fore that both the accused individuals are chronic drug peddlers and are actively involved in selling of illegal drugs among the youth of District Srinagar especially among the youth of Soura area.

In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 90/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Soura and further investigation is going on.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. (News Vibes of India)

‘No Parking Zone’ declared near GMC Hospital Baramulla to Ease Congestion

Srinagar, Nov 25 (NVI): As effort to address ongoing congestion near the Associated Hospital at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, District Magistrate Minga Sherpa has announced the declaration of a “No Parking Zone” along the approach road from the National Highway to the hospital.

This comes after concerns raised by the Medical Superintendent regarding frequent traffic jams, especially during peak hours, which have been obstructing access to medical services.

In this regards, an order issued a copy of which lies with NVI reads, the congestion, which has been a persistent problem, hampers the timely arrival of ambulances and emergency services, affecting patients seeking urgent medical attention. The District Magistrate, using powers under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, issued the order to ensure smooth operation in the area.

Three Long-Time Absconders Apprehended, Presented Before Court in Rajouri

Rajouri, Nov 25 (NVI): As part of breakthrough, Rajouri Police arrested three individuals who had been evading arrest for over a decade in connection with FIR

As per the available details with NVI, the case was registered under Sections 307, 147, 148, 149, and 323 of the RPC at the Rajouri Police Station.

It reads, the arrested absconders are Parvaiz Ahmed, son of Badir Hussain, Mohd Zamurad, son of Badir Hussain and Mohd Iqbal, son of Lal Din. With all three are residents of Chawa, Rajouri.

It also reads as, warrants for their arrest under Section 512/299 of the Cr.PC were issued by the Hon’ble Sessions Court, Rajouri.

Pertainly, after extensive efforts, the individuals were apprehended and presented before the Hon’ble Court today, adhering to all legal procedures.—(News Vibes of India)

Bandipora Administration Evicts Politicians from Govt. Quarters in Sumbal

Bandipora, Nov 25(NVI) : The Bandipora administration launched a eviction operation on Monday, reclaiming government quarters that had been illegally occupied by several individuals in the Irrigation Colony Sumbal area in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The eviction drive was led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sumbal, Syed Murtaza, alongside Tehsildar Sumbal and officials from the Irrigation Department, among others. The operation successfully resulted in the removal of several unauthorized occupants, including prominent political figures.

Among those evicted were Abdul Rashid Khan, a BJP leader; Jahangir Ahmad Dar, a former Municipal Committee Sumbal chairman; Ghulam Nabi Ganie, an ex-Block Development Council (BDC) chairman from Naidkhai; and social and political activist Mohammad Aslam. The government quarters were subsequently sealed during the process.

Officials stated that the purpose of the operation was to reclaim public property and enforce regulations related to government housing. An official from the Irrigation Department confirmed, “The eviction process was carried out smoothly, and the quarters have been secured.”

When contacted, SDM Syed Murtaza clarified that none of the individuals had been officially allotted the government quarters. He added that the eviction was carried out in accordance with directives from higher authorities to remove unauthorized occupants.(News Vibes of India)

Terror cases : Police Conducts Searches at Multiple Locations in J&K’s Rajouri

Jammu, Nov 25(NVI) : Jammu and Kashmir Police today conducted extensive searches at multiple locations across Rajouri district in connection with the terror related cases.

The areas where searches were conducted include Thanamandi, Dharhal, Kalakot, and Manjakot. Police said that the searches were carried out as part of investigations linked to Case FIR No. 95/2013 registered at Police Station Thanamandi and Case FIR No. 447/2024 registered at Police Station Rajouri.

“These cases pertain to a terrorist network active in Rajouri which with the connivance of terrorist organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has been working to activate overground workers (OGWs) in Jammu and Kashmir to initiate, organize, and execute terror-related activities, ” the police said.

The police said during the searches , incriminating materials and documents were recovered and seized. Further investigation in these cases continues, the police said. (News Vibes of India)

LG visits Jammu’s Tawi River Front, says site to be major tourist attraction

Jammu, Nov 25 (NVI) : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today conducted an on-site inspection of the Tawi River Front project in Jammu and stated that the site will be a major tourist attraction.

Speaking to the media, the Lieutenant Governor stated that the first phase of this flagship project under the Jammu Smart City initiative is expected to be completed by January 2025. He said that the Tawi River Front would significantly enhance Jammu’s tourism appeal, complementing recently completed projects such as the Jambu Zoo, the Light & Sound Show, and the Temple of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

Sinha said that destinations like Suchetgarh and the Tirumala Tirupati Temple attract 5,000-6,000 visitors daily, with numbers rising on weekends. “Efforts are underway to develop additional tourist destinations in Jammu city and the surrounding region with assistance from the Government of India, ” he said.

The LG said: “This was a challenging project and I commend Jammu Smart City for their efforts. I am confident that the people of Jammu will greatly appreciate and enjoy the Tawi Riverfront once completed.”.

Sinha was accompanied by key officials, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary (Jal Shakti) Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, and Commissioner/Secretary for Housing & Urban Development Ms. Mandeep Kaur. Srinagar, Nov 25(NVI): J&K Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra today urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to fulfill their promise of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay.

Karra pointed out that the Supreme Court has already issued a directive to the central government to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which had been revoked in August 2019. “This judicial intervention has added weight to the demand for statehood, making it even more urgent, ” he said.

Karra expressed his hope that the promise made by the government is not simply another “jumla” (a term often used to refer to political statements or assurances that are made but never followed through).

Karra further said that while today’s gathering was a protest but a reminder to the central government of the promise made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He stressed that this was not just a political issue but one that deeply affects the lives of ordinary people.
