Night chill returns as Srinagar freezes at -4.1°C

Srinagar, Jan 25(NVI): The biting winter chill has returned to the Kashmir Valley, with Srinagar recording a minimum temperature of -4.1°C last night.

The freezing temperatures have intensified the cold wave across the region, affecting daily life.

The coldest spot in the valley was Gulmarg, where the mercury plummeted to -9.0°C, followed by Pahalgam at -8.2°C. The picturesque Sonamarg recorded a freezing -6.0°C, while Qazigund and Kupwara shivered at -4.4°C and -4.8°C, respectively.

The chill has also gripped South Kashmir, with Pulwama registering -5.8°C, Anantnag at -5.4°C, and Shopian at -6.3°C. Meanwhile, Zojila Pass recorded a bone-chilling -26.0°C, making it the coldest place in the region.

In Ladakh, the freezing temperatures continue unabated, with Leh recording -13.0°C and Kargil at -14.3°C. The harshest cold was observed in Drass, where temperatures plunged to -23.9°C.

The Jammu region remained relatively warmer, with Jammu city recording a minimum temperature of 5.3°C, though Bhaderwah experienced a low of 0.7°C, and Padder registered -4.8°C.

The Meteorological Department has forecast dry weather for the coming days, which is likely to further intensify the cold wave. Residents are advised to stay warm and take precautions, especially during the early mornings and nights when temperatures dip significantly. (News Vibes of India)
