Srinagar, Nov 5 (NVI): Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday reviewed the progress of the upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Awantipora in south Kashmir and stressed the need for expediting its completion.

During the review meeting, the ministers assessed the status of ongoing construction work, infrastructure development and other key aspects related to the establishment of the premier healthcare institution.

The meeting also focused on reviewing the progress achieved so far and identifying areas requiring attention to ensure timely completion of the project.

Sakina Itoo welcomed the Union Health Minister and appreciated the support extended by the Union Government towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

AIIMS Awantipora is being developed as a premier centre for specialised medical treatment, advanced healthcare services, medical education and research.

Once fully operational, the institution is expected to significantly enhance tertiary healthcare facilities in the region, provide access to specialised medical services and reduce the burden on patients travelling outside Jammu and Kashmir for advanced treatment.

The project is considered a major step towards strengthening the healthcare delivery system in Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on providing quality and affordable medical facilities to the people.

The review underscores the continued efforts of the Union and Jammu and Kashmir Governments to accelerate infrastructure development and strengthen the healthcare sector in the region. (NVI)
