Srinagar, Sep 22 (NVI): Senior judicial officer Yash Paul Bourney was sworn in as a judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh at a ceremony held at its Srinagar wing on Tuesday.
Chief Justice Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati administered the oath of office to Bourney at the Chief Justice’s Court.
The warrant of appointment was read out by High Court Registrar General M K Sharma, who also conducted the proceedings.
Several judges of the High Court, senior government officials, law officers, judicial officers, senior advocates and members of the Bar were present at the ceremony. Some judges joined the proceedings virtually from the Jammu wing.
The Ministry of Law and Justice had issued the notification appointing Bourney as a judge of the High Court on September 19, 2026.
Born on August 25, 1967, Bourney hails from Dadwara village in Bhaddu area of Kathua district.
During his judicial career, he served as Principal District and Sessions Judge in Leh, Baramulla, Udhampur and Jammu. He also served as Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, in Srinagar and Jammu.
Bourney held several key institutional positions, including Member Secretary of the J&K Legal Services Authority, Registrar Vigilance of the High Court and Director of the J&K Judicial Academy.
Prior to his elevation to the High Court, he was serving as a Member of the J&K Special Tribunal, Jammu, on deputation after his tenure as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu.—(NVI)
