Srinagar, July 6 (NVI): Heavy rainfall triggered a landslide near the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Monday, burying several vehicles under debris, officials said.

They said multiple vehicles were trapped in the landslide, with several sustaining extensive damage. Rescue teams, assisted by heavy machinery, have been deployed to clear the debris, retrieve the affected vehicles and restore access to the area.

In neighbouring Doda district, flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall disrupted normal life and caused damage at several places, officials said.

There were no immediate reports of any loss of life in either district, they added.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as rescue and restoration operations continue.(NVI)
