Global Kashmiri Pandit Conclave, Heritage Tour to Be Held in Kashmir From June 6

Srinagar, May 13 (NVI): A nine-day global conclave and heritage tour aimed at reconnecting displaced Kashmiri Pandits with their cultural and ancestral roots will be held in Kashmir from June 6, organisers said on Wednesday.

The first-ever “Global Kashmiri Pandit Heritage Tour & Conclave 2026” will culminate in a two-day event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre on June 13 and 14, they said.

Organised under the theme “From Exile to Excellence, Kashmiri Pandit Journey of Resilience, Renaissance and Return”, the programme is expected to bring together members of the Kashmiri Pandit community from India and abroad, including delegates from the United States, Europe and West Asia.

According to the organisers, the event will include heritage visits to spiritual, cultural and historical sites associated with Kashmiri Pandit civilisation in the Valley, along with round-table discussions, intellectual sessions, cultural programmes and youth interactions.

The conclave will also deliberate on issues related to cultural preservation, social cohesion and the future roadmap of the community, they said.

Several organisations, including the Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora, Jammu & Kashmir Vichar Manch, Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj, Kashmiri Pandit Association Mumbai and Kashmiri Overseas Association USA, are jointly organising the event with support from more than 30 groups across India and abroad.

The organisers said invitations have been extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, among others.

However, there was no official confirmation on the attendance of any Union government representative at the event.(NVI)

Army Commander Reviews Security, Anti-Terror Ops in Poonch Sector

Jammu, May 12 (NVI): General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command visited the forward areas of Poonch and the Romeo Force headquarters to review the prevailing security situation and ongoing counter-terrorism operations, officials said on Tuesday.

During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed on sustained domination activities across the Pir Panjal range, the intelligence grid in the region and coordination among various security agencies, they said.

Officials said the commander also reviewed security arrangements put in place by Rashtriya Rifles battalions for the annual migration of Gujjar and Bakarwal communities through the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army Commander interacted with troops deployed in the forward areas and lauded their professionalism, operational preparedness and continued domination of the area despite difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions, the officials added.(NVI)

New Delhi, May 12 (NVI): Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is set to visit New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to be held on May 14–15 under India’s chairmanship.

The high-level meeting will focus on key global issues including regional stability, multilateral cooperation and economic resilience among BRICS member nations. The gathering is being viewed as an important diplomatic step ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, which is expected to take place in New Delhi later this year under India’s presidency.

During his visit, Araghchi is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and other participating foreign ministers and officials attending the summit-related engagements.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting comes at a significant geopolitical moment as member nations discuss cooperation amid ongoing global economic uncertainty and regional conflicts. The meeting will serve as a preparatory platform for the broader BRICS Summit planned for September 2026.

Jammu, May 12 (NVI): The Indian Army on Tuesday foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, killing one intruder in the Krishna Ghati sector, officials said.

Acting on specific surveillance inputs, alert troops noticed suspicious movement around 300 metres inside the Indian side of the LoC in the Krishna Ghati sector at around 4 pm, the officials said.

They said the troops swiftly engaged the infiltrator and foiled the infiltration bid, ensuring that there was no breach of the LoC.

“One intruder has been neutralised,” the Army said, adding that troops continue to dominate the area and maintain a high state of operational readiness across the sector.

A search operation was continuing in the area, officials added.(NVI)

Jammu, May 12 (NVI): The Indian Army on Tuesday foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, Sources said.

They said alert troops detected suspicious movement near the LoC when a group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate into this side from across the border.

The infiltrators fired upon the troops after being challenged, triggering an exchange of fire, sources said.

Reportedly One terrorist was shot during the operation, they added.

The area has been cordoned off and searches were underway when the last reports came in.(NVI)

Srinagar, May 12 (NVI) : The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Braveheart Naib Subedar Hira Bahadur Pandey, who made the supreme sacrifice while on operational duty in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps said the force honours the supreme sacrifice of the soldier and lauded his courage and dedication.

“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Naib Subedar Hira Bahadur Pandey while on operational duty in Baramulla district. His courage and dedication will forever inspire us,” the Corps said.

The Army said its personnel salute the valour and sacrifice of the JCO and stand firmly with the bereaved family.

700 Drug Peddlers Arrested in J&K in 31 Days, Says LG Sinha

Srinagar, May 12 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said nearly 700 drug peddlers and smugglers have been arrested in the Union Territory over the past 31 days as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign.

Addressing a massive anti-drug padyatra in Baramulla, Sinha launched two new initiatives under the “Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir” campaign — the “Community Immunization Program against Drugs” and the “Family Fortress Initiative” — aimed at curbing narcotics abuse and dismantling drug networks across the UT.

He said over 2.35 lakh awareness and outreach programmes have been organised across Jammu and Kashmir during the last month, while more than 44,000 OPD patients have received treatment and counselling related to substance abuse.

The Lieutenant Governor said enforcement agencies have intensified action against the narcotics supply chain, including financial networks linked to drug cartels.

“Properties worth crores raised through drug money have been seized. Around 300 driving licences and more than 400 vehicle registrations linked to drug smugglers have been recommended for cancellation,” he said.

Sinha said over 3,300 medical shops were inspected across the Union Territory and licences of nearly 150 pharmacies were suspended for violating norms.

He added that around 3,000 CCTV cameras have been installed at drug stores, while more than two dozen alleged smugglers were booked under the PIT-NDPS Act.

Calling for community participation, Sinha urged schools, religious institutions and NGOs to dedicate time every week for awareness campaigns and family-level discussions on drug abuse.

“We must treat drug addiction with compassion and rehabilitation, while ensuring the harshest punishment for those involved in trafficking and destroying the future of our youth,” he said.(NVI)

Srinagar, May 12 (NVI): Authorities on Tuesday advised the public not to panic if any blast-like sound is heard between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, saying the activity has already been intimated by the Control Room of Air Force Station Malangpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

According to an official advisory, any such sound during the specified period is part of a pre-informed activity and there is no cause for alarm.

Officials urged people to remain calm and refrain from spreading rumours or misinformation regarding the sounds.(NVI)

Serial Job Fraudster Booked in 3 Cases by EOW Kashmir

Srinagar, May 12 (NVI): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir has registered three cases against a Kupwara resident for allegedly duping several people on the pretext of providing government jobs, officials said on Tuesday.

Officials the cases have been registered against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lastiyal Kalaroos in Kupwara district.

A spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had collected huge sums of money from multiple victims by falsely promising them government jobs in various departments and financial institutions.

The investigation further found that the accused allegedly prepared and supplied fake appointment orders purportedly issued by government agencies and J&K Bank to gain the trust of the victims and deceive them.

Officials said the acts committed by the accused prima facie attract offences under relevant provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), the erstwhile Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The spokesperson added that Abdul Majeed Mir is a “notorious offender” and that Crime Branch Kashmir had already filed chargesheets against him in two previous cases.

Meanwhile, the EOW Kashmir has advised the public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report suspicious activities to the Crime Branch.(NVI)

Two Held With Arms, LeT Posters in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 12 (NVI): Two persons were arrested during a naka checking operation in the Babadem area of Srinagar and arms, ammunition along with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) posters were recovered from their possession, police said on Tuesday.

A senior police officer said the duo was intercepted by police while travelling on a black-coloured Hero Splendor motorcycle during routine checking in the M.R. Gunj area of the city.

The arrested persons were identified as Faisal Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Malpora Habbakadal, and Faisal Ahmad Guroo, a resident of Kadi Kadal Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar.

During the search, police recovered a pistol, three magazines, 21 live rounds, two mobile phones and 10 LeT posters from their possession, officials said.

A case under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Arms Act has been registered at Police Station M.R. Gunj and investigation has been initiated, they added.

Further details are awaited, police said.(NVI)
